LUTHER COLLEGE: UW-Stout (10-16, 0-6 WIAC) will travel to Decorah, Iowa, Thursday, April 21 to face
Luther College (15-11, 4-6 ARC) in a doubleheader that was originally scheduled for April 13 in Menomonie. The match-up with the Norse is scheduled to get underway at 3 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: Stout was finally able to host a home game at Alumni Field, but UW-River Falls ruined the homecoming with 8-0, 16-2, wins, April 19. Luther was also swept in their last conference meeting, April 19. The Norse lost at the University of Dubuque, 15-7 (5 inn) and 2-1.
THE BLUE DEVILS: Shortstop
Shannon Jones and
Lexy Kupczak are leading the Blue Devils at the plate, with Jones hitting .353 (24-68) and Kupczak hitting .341 (15-44). Jones and Kupzack both have 13 RBI.
Kate Funk leads the Blue Devils with 14 RBIs. Kupcak leads the team in home runs with four and
Kate Funk has three home runs;
Katelyn Belleau and Jones both have also hit home runs this season.
Madee Kleinschmidt,
Mackensie Wolterstorff and
Anna Blanford have been getting the majority of the starts, with
Madalyn Lambert and
Jordan Caby seeing time in the circle. Kleinschmidt (2-8) has seen the most starts at nine and has recorded an ERA of 5.15. Blanford (4-3) has a team-best ERA of 2.98 in 51.2 innings pitched. Wolterstorff (3-5) leads the Blue Devils in strikeouts with 47 in 42.0 innings pitched. The Blue Devils' circle crew has 107 strikeouts, surpassing last year's total number of 90.
SCOUTING LUTHER COLLEGE: The Norse are led by Emily Fell at the plate. The senior outfielder is hitting .436 (34-78). Belle Berg is hitting .350 (28-80) with 21 TBI on six doubles, a triple and a home run. Kyal Heydt is hitting .346 (27-78) with a team high 26 RBI. Emily Versnik is hitting .333 (23-69) with two doubles, a home run and 16 RBI. Sydney Schultz leads the team in home runs with three.n the circle, Sam Thompson and Kendra Cooper have gotten all but one start. Thompson (2.31 ERA, 26K, 66.2 IP) has picked up nine wins while Cooper (2.71 ERA, 86K, 87.2 IP) is 56-6 with one save. Abbey Gapinski (3.15 ERA, 3K, 13.1 IP) has picked up a save with five appearances. |

La Crosse had no games scheduled last week, but are scheduled to be at UW-Oshkosh Tuesday, April 19. PARKING: There is no free parking for weekday baseball & softball games. Regular parking restrictions are strictly enforced. Parking for baseball and softball spectators during weekday games is restricted to on-street parking and in Lot 29. Spectators that park in Lot 29 (located just north of the outdoor track) must pay parking fees and register their license plate at the pay station near the main East entrance of the Sports & Fitness Center. Lot 29 parking restrictions end at 4 pm on Monday through Friday.
DO NOT PARK in Lot 4 during the week. Lot 4 is the parking lot located to the west of the Sports & Fitness Center and north of Don & Nona Williams Stadium (the football stadium).
Lot 4 is only open to the general public from 1 p.m. on Fridays until 9 p.m. on Sundays. There is no general parking in Lot 4 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays and not until 1 pm on Fridays. Team buses may park on the east side (outdoor track side - not the metered side) of 3rd Street East. Parking is permitted in all university lots on weekends.
PETS: While service animals are welcomed, no pets are allowed at UW-Stout athletic events.
UW-STOUT: The Blue Devils have already exceeded last year's wins total of six. The Blue Devils have shown much more of a penchant for power. Already this season, Stout has hit more home runs this year (nine to five all of last year), triples (eight to three) and is more than two-thirds in doubles (25 to 34 last year). Stout has plated more runs this year (104) compared to last year's total (89) and has already recorded 95 RBI compared to last year's 79. The Blue Devils are also stealing more bases, nabbing 43 compared to 27 last season.
Korin Hall has one-third of Stout's stolen bases, taking 15 bases in 16 attempts this year. Hall's 15 stolen bases exceeds her total of nine stolen bases during her first three seasons. Pinch runner
Hannah Timm has six stolen bases.
Emma Muehlenbeck has six stolen bases with
Marissa Boettcher,
Alyssa Albrecht, and
Katelyn Belleau each have three stolen bases. Eleven players have pilfered at least one stolen base so far this year.
AT THE PLATE: Shortstop
Shannon Jones and
Lexy Kupczak are leading the Blue Devils at the plate. Jones has recorded 24 hits (eight doubles, three triples, one home run) on 63 at bats for an average of .381. Kupzack leads the Blue Devils and is tied for second in the WIAC in home runs with four and is tied with Jones for RBIs at 13. Kupczak is hitting .359 (14-39).

ON THE BASE PATHS: Korin Hall leads all conference player in stolen bases, nabbing 15 in 16 attempts. Freshmen

Alyssa Albrecht has stolen three. As a team, Stout has stolen 42 bases, third in the WIAC.

BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT: UW-Stout was unable to hold onto the lead, as UW-Oshkosh scored seven unanswered runs to close out the first game for an 8-6 win. The second game saw some fast scoring by both teams, but Oshkosh was able to hold onto their lead after the first inning at the UW-Oshkosh Rec Plex Field on Saturday and the 15th ranked Titans swept the conference opening series with a 5-3 win. |

SCOUTING UW-RIVER FALLS: Sophomore shortstop Keegan Piton is the WIAC leader with 30 RBI, ranks second with 37 hits, and third with a .500 batting average. She led the Falcons with seven hits two weekends ago, including a three-run homer during game one at UWW, the eventual game-winning RBI. Last year's WIAC newcomer of the year, Johanna Breyer, is hitting .378 with five doubled and nine RBI. Grace Peterson is hitting .375 with 11 RBI. Kelly Aultman has driven in 19 runs, has a team-best nine doubles and matched Piton with two home runs. As a team, UWRF's .317 ranks fourth in the WIAC and is tied for second with 44 doubles. In the pitcher's circle, Juliana Reynolds leads the team with a 4.02 ERA in 54 innings pitched, making a team-best 12 appearances and nine starts. Reynolds has completed four game and struck out 55, rankingfourth in the WIAC. Lindsey Duggan has earned two saves and Reynolds and Maggie Wallin have a save each. LAST TIME THEY MET: In game one in a non-conference doubleheader with UW-Platteville, UW-Stout out-hit the Pioneers and in game two, Maddie Kleinschmidt threw her first collegiate complete game, but the Blue Devils could not record a win over the Pioneers May 1, 2021, on a gorgeous summer-like, sun-drenched Alumni Field. The line looked very similar for Platteville in the second game, scoring twice in the first inning, then adding single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. |

Shannon Jones belted an inside-the-park home run in Game Two at UW-Platteville April 24, 2021, but UW-Stout came up just short, 5-3, in the nightcap. The Pioneers won the opening game, 5-1. Trailing 5-0 in the second game, Jones sparked all of Stout's scoring in the contest. With
Kelly Beck on second base, Jones smacked the ball over the head of the Pioneer outfielder who dived for the ball in the gusting winds. Before the outfield could recover, Jones had touched all the bases for her second home run of the season. |

Chris Iliopoulos (10-14) is in his first year as the head coach of the Blue Devils with the 2022 season. Iliopoulos was the Blue Devils' assistant coach for four seasons before assuming the head role last summer.
NFCA RANKINGS: UW-Oshkosh is the only WIAC team currently ranked in the April 19 NFCA poll, holding down the 11th spot. Stout has played 22nd-ranked Millikin University and is scheduled to play 18th ranked St. Benedict later this month. |
