LA CROSSE (April 10, 2021) -
Shannon Jones gave UW-Stout a 2-0 lead with her first career home run, lifting a shot to left field with
Korin Hall on base, but the Blue Devils fell 4-2 at UW-La Crosse in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) contest Saturday.
Hall led off the game with a walk and, following an out, Jones lifted the pitch to give Stout (3-10, 0-3 WIAC) the lead.
But the Eagles (7-4, 3-0 WIAC) threatened in third inning, but Blue Devil pitcher
Sommer Kunstmann closed out the by getting the third out via a strikeout with the bases loaded. The Eagle tied the game in the fourth inning on an infield RBI single by Katie Block and a sacrifice by Kendra Leis. Block and Leis both recorded their second RBIs of the night with singles to the left side of the diamond.
Kunstmann went the distance for the Blue Devils, giving up 12 hits, while surrendering the four runs, of which two were earned. The senior recorded one strikeout and gave up one walk.
Jones had three of Stout's four hits, going 3 for 3 with a runs scored and two RBI, along with a stolen base.
Kaylee Peterson had the other hit.
La Crosse's top three batters accounted for nine of the 12 hits, with Sabrina Scardamaglia going 3 for 4, Block 4 for 4 and Leis 2 for 3.
Beginning in the sixth inning, the rains came down and didn't relent, forcing the postponement of the scheduled second game. La Crosse will be traveling to Stout on April 28 for a scheduled non-conference doubleheader. The first game will become a conference game with La Crosse serving as the home team in the book. The second game will be a non-conference game.
Stout is scheduled to play at UW-River Falls, Wednesday, April 14 and will host UW-Whitewater, Saturday, April 17.Â
