UW-Platteville 4, UW-Stout 0
MENOMONIE (May 1, 2021) - In game one in a non-conference doubleheader with UW-Platteville, UW-Stout out-hit the Pioneers and in game two, Maddie Kleinschmidt threw her first collegiate complete game, but the Blue Devils could not record a win over the Pioneers Saturday on a gorgeous summer-like, sun-drenched Alumni Field.
Stout (5-22) smacked out twice as many hits as the visiting Pioneers (15-13), but could not string enough together to get the win.
The Pioneers took advantage of two Stout errors in the second inning to score two runs to take a 2-0 lead.
The Blue Devils came back to tie the game in the bottom of the third after
Korin Hall walked and
Jessica Christiansen beat out a bunt for a single to move Hall to second. Following an out,
Kaylee Peterson singled to load the bases for
Michala Belter, who belted a double down the left field line to score Hall and Christiansen. Platteville scored in the fourth inning on a bases loaded walk. Platteville added another run in the sixth.
The line looked very similar for Platteville in the second game, scoring twice in the first inning, then adding single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Kleinschmidt went the distance and struck out four, giving up 10 hits. Christiansen recorded two hits for Stout. Shannon Gaul had three hits for Platteville. Pitcher Claire Bakkestuen - who struck out 10 - helped her own cause with a home run.
Stout will host UW-River Falls, Tuesday, May 4 in a non-conference doubleheader at 4 p.m., then close out the home schedule when they host UW-Stevens Point in a Senior Night conference doubleheader, Friday, May 7 at 5 p.m.
