OSHKOSH, Wis. (April 9, 2022) - UW-Stout was unable to hold onto the lead, as UW-Oshkosh scored seven unanswered runs to close out the first game for an 8-6 win. The second game saw some fast scoring by both teams, but Oshkosh was able to hold onto their lead after the first inning at the UW-Oshkosh Rec Plex Field on Saturday and the 15th ranked Titans swept the conference opening series with a 5-3 win.
The first three innings were fairly quiet from both teams, with only three hits by both teams. Oshkosh was the first team to get on the scoreboard with Hannah Ritter reaching home on a single by Grace Stevens in the bottom of the third.
Stout got the bats going in the top of the fourth,
Shannon Jones reached home off a
Kayli Pfeffer single. Later in the inning,
Maggie O'Brien would go on on to send
Kate Funk home. And
Alyssa Albrecht would take home off an error. Jones would get another opportunity at the plate in the top of the fourth. She extended Stout's lead to five (6-1) with a double RBI single to left field.
Oshkosh answered back in the bottom of the fourth with four runs of their own, closing Stout's lead to just one (6-5). Later, in the bottom of the sixth, Sophie Wery hit a double which saw three runners make it home for the Titans, giving Oshkosh the lead at 8-6.
In the second game, the Blue Devils got on the board early with
Lexy Kupczak hitting her fourth home run of the season. The Titans answered back quickly as Wery hit her own home run in the bottom of the first, putting the Titans up 4-2. The Titans would later score in the fourth inning, giving them a 5-2 lead.
The Blue Devils saw a glimmer of hope after
Lexy Kupczak picked up an RBI, sending
Korin Hall home in the top of the second, but the Blue Devils were unable to score another run as the Titans went onto to claim the second victory of the day, 5-3.
Stout will now head to UW-Whitewater for a double-header against the Warhawks. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
