UW-Stout 0, UW-Whitewater 8 (5 inn.)
WHITEWATER, WI (April 10, 2020) - UW-Stout softball was unable to get any runners back to home plate in both games against UW-Whitewater Sunday, falling 2-0 the first game and 8-0 in the second game on Sunday afternoon at Steenderen Complex.
The first game was off to a slow start, both teams were throwing no-hitters until Whitewater's Meghan Dunning hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second. Stout would record their first hit at the top of the fourth where
Korin Hall recorded a single.
Shannon Jones and
Lexy Kupczak also recorded hits in the fourth, but both were left on base at the end of the inning.
Whitewater scored another run in the bottom of the fourth, extending their lead to 2-0. The Warhawks would go to close out the game not allowing another Stout hit, recording the 2-0 win.
In the second game, Dunning would get the scoring started again for the Warhawks, with another solo home run in the bottom of the second. Later that inning, Kennedy Cox hit a two-run home run, giving Whitewater a 3-0 lead. Stout looked to answer back after an
Ava Williams' double to start out the third inning but was left on base at the end of the inning.
Whitewater extended their lead with a Brooke Mangler solo home run later in the game, that same inning Whitewater would go on to score two more runs, coming out of the bottom of the fourth with a 6-0 lead. Stout recorded two hits in the top of the fifth, but the Blue Devils were unable to come away with a run. Whitewater finished out the game scoring two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to give them the 8-0 win in five innings.
Next up for Stout softball is their first set of home games. The Blue Devils will take on Luther College on Wednesday, April 13. The first game of the double header is scheduled for 3 p.m.
