Jeff Dotson was a tall, lanky goalie who took advantage of his physical attributes to  earn AHCA West All-American first team honors. Dotson become the first UW-Stout player to earn Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) player of the year honors. During his four-year career spanning 2000-04, Dotson kicked aside a school-best 2226 shots and posted what was then a school record for career saves percentage (.912) and goals against average (3.45). Dotson appeared in 73 games  and earned a then-school record 28 wins. As a sophomore, Dotson earned national player of the week honors after stopping 57 shots in a 2-1 win over nationally ranked UW-River Falls. Dotson recorded 63 saves against defending national champion UW-Superior during his junior season. During his senior year, Dotson recorded a school record four shutouts, posted a then school record GAA of 2.76, recorded 57 saves against Lake Forest and 54 saves to earn a tie with top-ranked St. Norbert.
