The UW-La Crosse at UW-Stout softball doubleheader scheduled for Saturday, April 23, has been postponed to Tuesday, April 26 and will begin at 3 p.m.
The UW-Stout at UW-Eau Claire doubleheader for Wednesday, April 27 has been moved up to a 2 p.m. start. Those games will be at Bollinger Field.
TODAY'S GAMES: UW-Stout (12-18, 2-6 WIAC) snapped a nine-game skid Sunday with a sweep over UW-Platteville and now have their hands full on this cold, breezy day when they welcome WIAC first place UW-La Crosse (17-8, 5-1 WIAC) to Alumni Field. The Eagles have not played since last Tuesday, April 19, when they swept 11th-ranked UW-Oshkosh. The Eagles are now receiving votes in the NFCA Top 25 Coaches Poll.
UW-STOUT: Lexy Kupczak made her presence known Sunday in Stout's 7-5, 2-1, sweep over UW-Platteville when she belted two home runs and drove in five runs in the opener. For the Blue Devil catcher, it was her fifth and sixth home runs of the season and she now leads the WIAC in round-trippers. Kupczak is hitting 360 on the season (18-50) and has four doubles to post a conference-high slugging percentage of .800. Shortstop
Shannon Jones is hitting .338 (26-77) with seven doubles, three triples and one home run.
Ashley Jacobson hit her first career home run Sunday against Platteville and the left field homer proved to be the eventual game two winner. Jacobson is hitting .306 (19-62) with two doubles and a triple. Leadoff hitter
Korin Hall is hitting .304 (21-69) and has on-base percentage of .407, which is dangerous for opponents. Hall has a conference-best 16 stolen bases. Stout has 12 total home runs and
Kate Funk has three of those. In the circle, freshman
Anna Blanford picked up a save and a win Sunday. Blanford allowed only one hit and one run, striking out one and forcing six groundouts in 2. 1 innings of work. Blanford went the distance in game two, scattering nine hits but allowing only the one run in the top of the seventh. Blanford recorded 17 groundouts. On the season, Blanford posts an ERA of 2.79 over 62.2 innings pitched with a 5-3 record and 20 strikeouts.
Madee Kleinschmidt has started a team-high 10 games and has a n ERA of 5.09 over 56.1 innings pitched. She has 30 strikeouts.
Mackensie Wolterstorff has made a team-high 16 appearances and leads the team in strikeouts with 57.
UW-LA CROSSE: Kendra Leis, a two time All-WIAC First Team selection, is leading the Eagles at the plate. Leis is batting .417 with 35 hits, 8 doubles, one triple, and three home runs. Jordyn McCormack, Kyra Lard, and Emily Knight match Leis's three home runs. McCormack is batting .407 (35 hits, 10 doubles, one triple) and Lard .398 (3 hits, 11 doubles). Lard also leads the Eagles in RBIs with 22. Elise Weinzierl and Ally Eden are getting a majority of the starts inside the circle. Weinzierl (1.96 ERA, 71.1 IP, 59 K) is 7-2 while Eden (2.58 ERA, 43.1 IP, 29 K) is 2-2. Remington Stark has started a game, but has come in as a relief pitcher and has a 2.14 ERA in 32.2 IP with 53 strike-outs. The Eagles are coming off a sweep with a pair of one-run win at 11th-ranked UW-Oshkosh a week ago today. The Eagles took the first game, 5-4, and Hannah Lalk hit a game-winning solo home run in the top of the ninth and pitcher Elise Weinzierl induced three groundouts in the bottom of the ninth to pick up the win, her second win of the day.
LAST TIME THEY MET: Stout opened up the second game with UW-La Crosse with four straight hits in the first inning and scored four runs in the stanza to take a 4-3 win over the Eagles April 28, 2021, at Alumni Field. The Blue Devils were coming off a 9-3 first game loss. The first game was a postponement from earlier this month and was a conference game. La Crosse was designated the home team in the game. The second game was a regular non-conference game.

Sommer Kunstmann closed out the inning by getting the third out via a strikeout with the bases loaded. The Eagle tied the game in the fourth inning on an infield RBI single by Katie Block and a sacrifice by Kendra Leis. Block and Leis both recorded their second RBIs of the night with singles to the left side of the diamond.

A QUICK LOOK AT LAST WEEK: UW-Stout fell in both games to UW-River Falls on their home opening night. River Falls shut out the Blue Devils 8-0 in the first game and kept their bats hot in the second, getting the 16-2 win. The Blue Devils lost a pair of non-conference games Thursday at Luther College, falling 17-0, 8-0, to the Norse. The Eagles swept past UW-Oshkosh, 5-4, 10-9 (9 inn) Tuesday in Oshkosh to hand the Titans their first conference losses and move into first place in the WIAC.

Shannon Jones and
Lexy Kupczak are leading the Blue Devils at the plate, with Jones batting .343 (24-70) over 25 games. Jones has 13 RBI with eight doubled, three triples and one home run. Kupczak, after taking only seven at-bats last season, has stepped up and developed into a Blue Devil power hitting, smashing a team-best four home runs. Kupczak is hitting .326 (15-46) with three doubles and 13 RBI. In limited action,
Maggie O'Brien is hitting .20 (8-25) with a double, triple and nine RBI.
Korin Hall is hitting above .300, hitting .302 (19-63). The Blue Devil slapper has a double and a triple.
Kate Funk has three home runs and a team-high 14 RBI.
Kelly Beck, despite no extra-base hits, has driving in 11 runs. Beck has also drawn 12 walks.

Kleinschmidt (2-8) has seen the most starts at nine and has recorded an ERA of 6.31. Blanford (4-3) has a team-best ERA of 3.02 in a team-best 43.1 innings pitched. SCOUTING UW-PLATTEVILLE: Rachel Plautz, Riley Kelsch, and Claire Bakkestuen have been the three big hitters for the Pioneers so far this season. Plautz leads the way with a .469 batting average, nine doubles and two home runs. Kelsh has been consistently getting to first, with 24 hits on 62 at bats with six doubles. Bakkestuen, the Pioneers only returning All-WIAC player, leads the team with home runs (4) and RBIs (24). Bakkestuen has also seen a lot of time in the circle, posting a 4-3 record with a team-best 3.42 ERA and 70 stirke-outs. McKenna Rommel has the most starts on the Pioneers pitching chart, as she is pitching with a 4.88 ERA in 43.0 innings. |

LAST TIME THEY MET: In game one in a non-conference doubleheader with UW-Platteville, UW-Stout out-hit the Pioneers and in game two, Maddie Kleinschmidt threw her first collegiate complete game, but the Blue Devils could not record a win over the Pioneers May 1, 2021, on a gorgeous summer-like, sun-drenched Alumni Field. The line looked very similar for Platteville in the second game, scoring twice in the first inning, then adding single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. |

Shannon Jones belted an inside-the-park home run in Game Two at UW-Platteville April 24, 2021, but UW-Stout came up just short, 5-3, in the nightcap. The Pioneers won the opening game, 5-1. Trailing 5-0 in the second game, Jones sparked all of Stout's scoring in the contest. With
Kelly Beck on second base, Jones smacked the ball over the head of the Pioneer outfielder who dived for the ball in the gusting winds. Before the outfield could recover, Jones had touched all the bases for her second home run of the season. |

Chris Iliopoulos (10-18) is in his first year as the head coach of the Blue Devils with the 2022 season. Iliopoulos was the Blue Devils' assistant coach for four seasons before assuming the head role last summer.
NFCA RANKINGS: UW-Oshkosh is the only WIAC team currently ranked in the April 19 NFCA poll, holding down the 11th spot. Stout has played 22nd-ranked Millikin University and is scheduled to play 18th-ranked St. Benedict later this month. |

LAST SEASON: The Blue Devils finished the 2021 season at 6-26 and 0-14 in the WIAC, but took UW-Oshkosh into extra innings before bowing out 4-3 in 10 innings to the top seeded team in the conference in the first round of the WIAC playoffs.
ON DECK: The Blue Devils are scheduled to travel to UW-Eau Claire, Wednesday, April 27, then to the College of St. Benedict, Friday, April 29 and to UW-Stevens Point, Sunday, May 1 to close the regular season.
