Blue Devils toppled in both ends of doubleheader at Luther

Luther College 17, UW-Stout 0 (5 inn) | Luther College 8, UW-Stout 0 (5 inn)

DECORAH, Iowa (April 21, 2022) - It was a nice spring day in Decorah, Iowa, a good day for a ball game, but the results didn't turn out in UW-Stout's favor as host Luther College defeated the Blue Devils 17-0, 8-0 Thursday.

In game one, the Norse's Kendra Campbell held Stout (10-18) to no hits and the Luther (17-11) offense pounded out 15 hits. Luther scored in each of the four innings they batted. Mackensie Wolterstorff stopped the bleeding in the bottom the fourth by ending the five-run inning with three consecutive strikeouts, facing only the three batters, catching the last two looking. Offensively, Stout did draw four walks.

In the second game, the Blue Devils finished with four hits and threatened in the fourth inning with singles Aliyah Smetana and Maggie O'Brien. Wolterstorff went to the plate for only the third time this season and drew a two-out walk to load the bases. Alexa Anderson opened the fifth inning with a single to center field, then advanced to second on a groundout by Alyssa Albrecht. But Anderson was thrown out attempting to steal third and the inning ended on a line drive to center field. Kaylee Peterson got Stout's fourth hit, a lead off single in the third inning.

After all five Stout pitchers threw in the first game, Wolterstorff got the call to the circle in the second game, facing only three batters in the first inning. Wolterstorff recorded seven strikeouts in the second game, chalking up 10 Ks on the day. She scattered seven hits while going 4.2 innings.

Stout is scheduled to close out the home portion of their schedule this weekend when they host UW-La Crosse, Saturday, April 23 at 2 p.m. for Alumni Day and UW-Platteville, Sunday, April 24 at noon for Senior Day.
