WINONA, Minn. (April 28, 2018) -
Kayla Pabst was just short of her career-best as she won the hammer throw at the St.Mary's Spring Invitational Saturday, besting 34 other competitors
Pabst finished with a mark of 171-feet, 2-inches, an inch short of top mark of 171-3.
Tymesia McFadden set a career-best in finishing second in the 100-meter dash, setting a new time of 12.28 seconds. McFadden was third in the preliminaries at 12.47 and dropped her time considerable in the finals, finishing behind NCAA Division II St. Cloud State's Emelia Burris (12.18).
The Blue Devil men's relay teams captured top spots with the 4x400-relay team of
Lucas Carroll,
Cody Lohrenz,
Ross Thompson,
Alex Grulkowski), hitting a time of 3:22.86. The 4x100-relay team of
Noah Bielinski,
Brent Heilman,
Ross Thompson,
Austin Borchardt set a time of 43.11.
Sam Elsner was first in the discus and
Kevin Ruechel was second. Elsner finsihed second in the hammer throw.
Shanna Laehn captured a fifth place finish in the 400-hurdles (1:05.78). Laehn was fifth in the preliminaries of the 100-hurdles (15.26), but did not compete in the finals of the event.
Lydia Meier finished 11th in the hammer throw (181-5), all against NCAA Division I and II competitors at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa..
Heidi Lieffort was 21st in the discus.
Noah Zastrow did not make his opening height in the pole vault.
The Blue Devils will compete at the WIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5.

- Shanna Laehn captured a fifth place finish in the 400-hurdles (1:05.78). Laehn was fifth in the preliminaries of the 100-hurdles (15.26), but did not compete in the finals of the event.
- Miranda Scholten was 22nd in the 100-hurdles.
- The 4x100-relay team of McFadden, Laehn, Clarke and Kaitlin Mallek were second (47.92).
- The 4x400-relay team of Tume, Jenna Myhro, Stephanie Pladies and Hannah Miller were fourth (4:19.04).
Jumps
- Stephanie Pladies was third in the high jump (5-1). Raelin Sorensen was ninth (4-11).
- Sierra Coonts was sixth in the pole vault (11-2.50). Demi Ploor and Kristen Teupel was seventh (10-8.75), Heather Beecher ninth (20-8.75) and Jenna Myhro 11th (20-8.75).
- Kaitlin Mallek (17-7) and Aryn Benn (17-4.75) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the long jump. Tymesia McFadden placed 12th (16-6), Shelby Larson 19th (16-1.75), Taylor Smida 20th (16-0.50), Kelly Schubbe 25th (16-7.75), Emila Makina 29th (14-5) and Bria Thomas 33rd (12-7.75)
- Schubbe was 11th in the triple jump (33-4.75), Makina 14th (31-10.75), Smida 15th (31-10.25), Kaleigh Schmutzler 18th (31=6), Shelby Larson 19th (31-5.25) and Janelle Robarge 21st (30-4.75).

- Morgan Denton placed eighth in the shot put (39-6). Ash Patterson was ninth (38-4.25), Emma Wittliff 10th (37-8.75), Kami Sawtelle 11th (37-5), Taylor Baker 13th (35-2), Kayla Pabst 16th (34-4).
- Patterson placed fifth in the discus (124-2), Pabst 11th (113-0), Sawtelle 12th (111-2), Denton 16th (105-11), Baker 19th (101-4), Wittliff 22nd (98-0), Sammy Butchley 24th (93-10), Lacey Winters 30th (86-10).

- Hannah Miller was 12th in the javelin (83-1) and Stephanie Pladies 14th (78-4).

- Brent Heilman was third in the preliminaries (11.18) of the 100m and the freshman finished third in the finals with a time of 11.09. Noah Bielienski was 12th (11.49), Jasiah Scott 13th (11.53), and Jack Hoaby 17th (11.63).
- Bielinski was seventh in the 200m (22.75), Austin Borchardt ninth (22.87), Hoaby 16th (23.56), Andrew Gilles 18th (23.59). Gilles, who normally runs the 800m, also ran the 400m and finished fifth (51.49).

- Alec Benzinger threw to a fourth place finish in the shot put (45-9.25). Kevin Ruechel was ninth (42-7.50).
- Sam Elsner won the discus (181-7), with Ruechel placing second (155-1). Anton Proksch was sixth (142-3), Benzinger seventh (140-5), Duncan Magerl 10th (135-0), Josh Freyholtz 23rd (106-5), Olson 25th (105-8), Alex Grulkowkski 36th (80-7).
- Elsner was second in the hammer throw, marking a 182-10, behind only an unattached competitor. Proksch was fifth (170-0), Magerl ninth (147-6), Ruechel 18th (125-10), Jacob Bugella 25th (119-5)
- Brenden Buryska was 27th in the javelin (105-1) and Nick Wilkerson 28th (105-0).
