LA CROSSE – The UW-Stout men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Phil Esten Challenge Thursday and Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Women's Highlights
Leah Zastrow delivered a record-breaking performance, winning the pole vault with a school-record clearance of 4.03 meters.
Raegan Sorensen placed fourth in the pole vault, clearing 12-8 to record the third-best mark in program history, and added a runner-up finish in the javelin with a throw of 38.02 meters.
On the track,
Lilly Roberts clocked a 15.27 in the 100-meter hurdles, with
Megan Liebers finishing just behind in 15.68. Liebers also posted a time of 1:05.46 in the 400-meter hurdles.
Lilly Gamache ran 12.20 in the 100 meters, while
Ava Budworth turned in a 59.40 effort in the 400 meters.
In distance events,
Arlie Kapaun placed 13th in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 11:56.91, with Core Sadlack finishing 20th in 12:22.86.
Emily Fisher ran 21:02.52 in the 5000 meters, and Charlie Oeltjen recorded a time of 40:16.04 in the 10,000 meters.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Budworth, Liebers,
Karlynn Gustafson, and Roberts combined for a time of 4:02.99.
In the field events,
Isabelle Jaenicke placed 15th in the long jump (5.17m) and 10th in the triple jump (10.83m).
Ava Mack finished 16th in the hammer throw (45.61m),
Grace Schmidt was 16th in the discus (40.12m), and
Lincoln Wellsmith placed eighth in the shot put (13.05m).
Men's Highlights
The 4x100-meter relay team of
Nolyn Lindner,
Conner Blade,
Jonny Grams, and
Braedon Pederson ran 41.76.
Braedon Pederson also turned in strong sprint performances, running 10.88 in the 100 meters and 21.74 in the 200 meters.
Nolan Zachgo placed sixth in the 110-meter hurdles prelims (15.00) before finishing in 15.28 in the finals. He also recorded a time of 57.65 in the 400-meter hurdles.
In the middle distances,
Walter Strait led Stout in the 800 meters, placing 15th in 1:55.33, with
Silas Green close behind in 18th at 1:55.85.
Lucas Anderson placed ninth in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:58.89.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Lindner,
Logan Scott, Zachgo, and
Jacob Sutton placed fourth with a time of 3:20.65.
Stout had a strong showing in the 10,000 meters, led by
Julian Van Antwerp's seventh-place finish in 31:28.29.
Mason Aide placed 13th (31:33.64) and
Nick Stitzer finished 14th (31:33.73).
In field events,
Sam Knox cleared 4.97 meters to place fifth in the pole vault, while
Braden Krystosek finished eighth (4.67m).
Matthew Binstock placed ninth in the high jump (1.96m) and 16th in the triple jump (13.53m), and
Kolvin Mayer was eighth in the long jump (6.94m).
In the throws,
Jesse Fowler led the way with a third-place finish in the hammer throw (57.96m), while
Maverick Metzger placed 15th (50.58m).
Karter Rashke recorded a fifth-place finish in the shot put (16.87m).
In the javelin,
Michael Volz placed sixth (47.74m),
Marcus Bohl Mantilla was seventh (47.02m), and
Braden Borgerding finished 11th (45.04m).

The Blue Devils will split squads next weekend, traveling to Des Moines, Iowa, for the Drake Relays (April 24-25) and competing in Eau Claire, Wis., at the Dick & Mary Johnson Invitational at the Simpson Field Sports Complex.
