LA CROSSE – The University of Wisconsin-Stout men's and women's track and field teams opened the outdoor season at the UW-La Crosse Ashton May Invitational, turning in a strong showing with multiple event titles and top-three finishes.
WOMEN'S RESULTS
UW-Stout was led by a pair of event wins in the field events. Raegan Sorensen captured the pole vault title, clearing 3.97 meters (13' 0.25"), while Isabelle Jaenicke won the triple jump with a mark of 10.54 meters (34' 7").
Leah Zastrow added a runner-up finish in the pole vault at 3.87 meters (12' 8.25"), giving the Blue Devils a 1-2 finish in the event.
On the track, Claudia Lasiowski placed fourth in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:43.08. In the 400-meter hurdles, Kaylie Raths (1:06.71) and Megan Leibers (1:06.92) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.
In the throws, Ava Mack recorded a seventh-place finish in the discus with a throw of 38.39 meters (125' 11").
MEN'S RESULTS
The Blue Devils were equally strong on the men's side, highlighted by an event win from Karter Rashke in the shot put. Rashke secured the victory on his final attempt with a throw of 16.80 meters (55' 1.5").
On the track, Nolyn Linder led the way with a second-place finish in the 400 meters (49.70), while Jonny Grams took third in the 200 meters (22.26). The 4x400-meter relay team of Cody Powell, Logan Scott, Jacob Sutton, and Ryan Semerijan also earned a third-place finish in 3:31.45.
In the hurdles, Nolan Zachgo placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.59) and added a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (59.32), with Eli Key finishing seventh (1:01.27).
Mateo Meza-Melendez recorded a fourth-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase (10:57.96), while Nick Schulte placed fifth in the 800 meters (2:00.86).
In the field events, Sam Knox cleared 4.95 meters (16' 2.75") to finish second in the pole vault. In the horizontal jumps, Braedon Pederson placed third in the long jump (6.68m), followed closely by Kolvin Mayer in fourth (6.59m).
Noah Flood Elyafi led the way in the triple jump with a fourth-place finish (13.46m) and added a sixth-place finish in the high jump (1.91m), where Matthew Binstock also cleared 1.91 meters to place seventh.
In the throws, John Baker placed fifth in the discus (39.53m) and seventh in the shot put (14.65m), while Jacob Dietel added top-10 finishes in both events. Jesse Fowler recorded a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw (52.57m).
In the javelin, Braden Krystosek (44.80m) and Michael Volz (44.78m) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
UW-Stout will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Platteville, Wis. to compete in the UW-Platteville Invitational April 10-11.
