NORMAL, Ill. – The UW-Stout women's golf team turned in an impressive performance at the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling, finishing second overall at Ironwood Golf Course with a two-day total of 614 (+38).
The Blue Devils, ranked No. 30 nationally, delivered one of their strongest showings of the spring, finishing ahead of No. 21 Illinois Wesleyan and No. 20 Grinnell in a competitive 21-team field.
Leading the way was
Julia Imai, who tied for individual medalist honors with a 36-hole score of 147 (+3). Imai posted rounds of 72 and 75 to earn a share of the title, finishing ahead of multiple top-ranked individuals, including the No. 6, No. 10 and No. 22 ranked players in the nation.
Stout placed two golfers inside the top five, as
Brin Neumann tied for fourth at 149 (+5), carding back-to-back rounds of 74 and 75.
The Blue Devils' depth proved critical in securing the runner-up finish.
Sarah Chaffee and
Ashleigh Johnson each tied for 28th at 159 (+15), while
Hallie Tulip rounded out the team scoring with a 169 (+25).
As a team, Stout was consistent across both rounds, posting identical scores of 307 on Saturday and Sunday to finish just seven strokes behind tournament champion No. 7 Washington University (Mo.).
The Blue Devils will travel to Janesville, Wisconsin to compete at the UW-Whitewater Spring Invite April 17-18 at the Janesville Riverside Golf Course.
