WAVERLY, Iowa – The UW-Stout women's golf team delivered a strong performance at the Wartburg Fall Invitational, tying for first place with the University of Dubuque at 607 (+31) over 36 holes on September 6-7 at Prairie Links Golf Course. The Blue Devils set a new team record with a second-round 294, overcoming a first-round 313 to claim a share of the title among 21 teams and 128 players.
Sophomore
Julia Imai led the charge, capturing medalist honors with a tournament-record 143 (-1), including a school-record-tying 67 (-5) in the final round, matching the previous single-round mark of 70.
Her total included seven birdies in the second round, including back-to-back on 17 and 18 to close out the round.
Junior
Brin Neumann finished third at 146 (+2) with rounds of 75 and 71. Sophomore
Kaitlyn Bohl tied for 22nd at 158 (+14) with 81-77, while freshman
Sarah Chaffee and junior
Ashleigh Johnson tied for 25th at 160 (+16) with 84-76 and 80-80, respectively. Additional scoring came from senior
Hallie Tulip at 163 (+19, T44th), sophomore
Avery Meyer at 166 (+22, T60th), and freshman
Annika Bilau at 181 (+37, 108th).
The Blue Devils edged out a competitive field, including Grinnell College in third at 621 (+45), Macalester in fourth at 631 (+55). Stout was 34 strokes better than the closest WIAC school, UW-Stevens Point, who finished tied for seventh (641, +65) and 35 better than UW-Whitewater, ninth with a 642 (+66). Individually, Imai held off Carthage's College's Lexi Manteufel, who finished at even par 144.
UW-Stout's next competition is next weekend, Sept. 13-14 when they travel to Hastings, Minn. to compete in the Gustie D3 Invite at the Emerald Greens Golf Course.
