SZYKOWNY'S START: Charlie Szykowny overcame a 1 for 7 start at the plate in the team's doubleheader loss to Bethel University, March 8 and has been on a hot streak ever since. The Blue Devil shortstop is on a 18-game hitting streak and had one streak where he hit a home run in five consecutive games. Szykowny is hitting .450 and has a slugging percentage of .900.  Szykowny's 31 RBIs and seven home runs are both WIAC bests. Szykowny has also gone to the mound from his shortstop spot.  Szykowny recorded a save against Bethel in the first game of the team's spring break trip to Florida and recorded his first collegiate win, pitching 2.1 innings of scoreless ball, allowing two hits and striking out four in an 11-9 win, 10-inning win over the US Merchant Marines Academy on the last day of the spring break trip.  Szykowny was named the WIAC position player of the week and was selected as the NCBWA honorable mention hitter of the hitter of the week.

SCHIRPKE JUST AS HOT: Schirpke overcame a slow start and is now hitting .385 with five doubles, two home runs and 22 RBI. Twice this season Schirpke has collected six RBI in a single game - against St. Michael when he went 3 for 5 with a home run and against the Merchant Marines when he went 4 for 4 with two doubles and a home run. The right fielder had four RBI in the first game against UW-Platteville, going 3 for 5 with two doubles. Schirpke has 22 RBI on the season.

STEADY THIMSEN: Joel Thimsen has been hitting around the .500 mark throughout the season and only once dipped as low as .462 after the first game of the season. Thimsen has hit seven doubles, a triple, two home runs and 30 RBI, second best on the team and the WIAC. Thimsen has driven in at least one run in 12 of 14 games. With runners on third and less than two outs, Thimsen is hitting .875 (7-8) and has lifted three sacrifice flies. With two outs, Thimsen has driven in 15 runs. Szykowny is right behind Thimsen, driving 14 runs with two outs.

HOW ABOUT JACOBY'S DAY?: Jacoby Endreas had a day baseball players dream of. On the first day of the UW-Eau Claire series, April 2, the Blue Devil transfer from Ellsworth Community College smashed out four home runs, of which two were grand slams, and finished the day with 12 RBI. In the first game alone, Endreas hit three home runs (one of them a grand slam) and had an eight RBI game, driving in single runs on two home runs, four with the grand slam and had a two-run single midway through the game. For the season, Endreas is hitting .375 (21-56) with five doubles, the four home runs and 18 RBI. Endreas has been steady at first base. He had a perfect fielding percentage last week in the eight combined games with UW-Platteville and Eau Claire. For the year, Endreas has a .982 fielding percentage, committing only two errors in 111 chances.

The quintet has driven in 112 runs. On the base paths, the five have combined for 19 stolen bases in 21 attempts.
