RIVER FALLS (April 3, 2022) – UW-Stout finished a four-game sweep over UW-Eau Claire, taking wins of 3-0, 11-10, Sunday at the First National Bank of River Falls Field.

Cody Urban pitched a complete game shutout in the opener, scattering six hits and striking out five.

Stout (13-5, 8-0 WIAC) scored in the second inning when
Colin Hageman drew a bases loaded walk. The Blue Devils added two runs in the seventh inning when
Drew Ries delivered a two-run double.

In the second game, Eau Claire (6-10, 1-5 WIAC) scored five runs in the first inning after two outs and a Stout error. Phil Zynda had a two-run double to highlight the innings. Eau Claire added a run in the second to take a 6-0 lead on an RBI single by Otto Treiche.

Stout cut the lead to 6-2 with an RBI single by
Riley Boushack in the second and a lead off home run by
Charlie Szykowny in the third. But Eau Claire got one run back for a 7-2 lead in the fourth when Chase Yaeger delivered a two-out RBI single.

Stout exploded for eight unearned runs in the fifth inning, taking advantage of a pair of Eau Claire errors to take the lead for the first time in the game, 10-7. Stout added what would prove to be the game-winning run in the eighth inning when
Jacoby Endreas drove in
Colin Hageman and Stout led 11-7.

The Blugolds made the game interesting in the ninth inning, scoring three runs after loading the bases. Treiche drew a base loaded double and Ryan Venne hit a two-run, two-out double to make it 11-10.

The teams combined for 27 hits in the second game, Eau Claire with 14 and Stout 13. Both teams committed two errors.

Szykowny had three RBI in the contest and went 2 for 4. Endreas and Ries each had two hits in the second game. Yaeger was 2 for 4 for the Blugolds. Nate Witte, Andrew Murphy, and Treichel each had two hits. Treichel, Phil Zynda, Venne and Drew Salyers each had two RBI.

Ethan Kjellberg pitched 7.1 innings of relief ball to score the win, coming in with two outs in the first inning. Kjellberg struck out five.
Stout will put their perfect conference record on the line when they travel to UW-Oshkosh, Saturday, April 9 and Sunday, April 10.Â
