MENOMONIE – The UW-Stout baseball team dropped both games in a double header to UW-La Crosse at Wakanda Park Friday. Stout fell 8-4 in game one and 13-5 in game two.
GAME ONE
The Blue Devils battled hard in the opener but fell to the visiting Eagles 8-4.
Both pitchers dueled early, allowing just three hits apiece through five innings. In the top of the fifth, UWL took a 1-0 lead on a solo homer to left by Andrew Palm. Stout responded in the bottom of the sixth.
Mike Pustelnik double to center to lead off the home half.
Austin Miller singled to center and
Gavyn Schacher launched a three-run homer to right center to give the Blue Devils a 3-1 lead.
La Crosse answered in the top of the sixth with another solo homer from Palm to bring the score to 3-2. La Crosse pushed a couple of runs across in the top of the eighth to take a 4-3 lead.
Cal Ulven singled to right in the bottom of the eight to score
Sam Graunke to tie the game at four.
La Crosse scored two on a two-out single in the top of the ninth to take a 6-4 lead and Palm followed with a two-run homer to extend the lead to 8-4.
Treysen Witt pitched 6.2 innings, scattering five hits allowing two runs and striking out two.
Cal Ulven was 3-4 at the dish and Cage Cavanagh was 2-4.
GAME TWO
Stout fell 13-5 in game two. La Crosse out hit Stout 15-6.
UW-La Crosse scored two runs in each of the first three innings.
Cal Ulven singled in the bottom of the third.
Bryan Tunison followed with is first career hit, a two-run homer to right center.
Kevin Zanin then singled to center and
Mike Pustelnik homered to left to bring Stout with in two at 6-4.
The Eagles added a run in the fourth to take a 7-4 lead. Tunison had a RBI singled to center to score
Connor Marino to bring the deficit to two.
La Crosse scored four in the fifth and added runs in the seventh and eighth innings to go on to win 13-5.
Grant Ingram pitched 4.1 innings in relief, scattering five hits and striking out seven.
Stout will play UW-La Crosse tomorrow April 11 at Wakanda Park. First pitch of the double header is set for 10 a.m.
