MENOMONIE – University of Wisconsin-Stout Polytechnic Director of Athletics
Erin Sullivan has announced the hiring of
Mason Stoltenberg as the 30th head coach of the Blue Devil baseball program.
Stoltenberg joins the Blue Devils after serving as academic recruiting coordinator and assistant baseball coach at UW-Oshkosh during the 2025-26 academic year. Prior to his return to Wisconsin, he spent more than a decade with the University of La Verne in California, including nine seasons as the Leopards' full-time assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
"We are excited to welcome
Mason Stoltenberg to UW-Stout Polytechnic as the next leader of our baseball program," Director of Athletics
Erin Sullivan said. "Throughout the search process, Mason distinguished himself with his passion for developing student-athletes, his strong recruiting background, and his clear vision for building a competitive program. We believe Mason's leadership and ability to connect with student-athletes will help position Blue Devils Baseball for success, and we are looking forward to the future of the program under his leadership."
During his tenure at La Verne, Stoltenberg helped guide the Leopards to NCAA Division III Super Regional appearances in 2023 and 2024. The coaching staff earned SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year honors in both seasons while developing conference award winners, including the 2022 SCIAC Player of the Year and the 2024 SCIAC Newcomer of the Year.
As recruiting coordinator, Stoltenberg oversaw the program's recruiting efforts, developed practice plans, coordinated travel, assisted with scheduling and budgeting, and worked extensively with hitters and infielders. He also played a key role in fundraising efforts, helping generate more than $120,000 for the program over a seven-year span while mentoring student-athletes academically and athletically.
"I am incredibly honored and excited for the opportunity to lead the Blue Devil baseball program," Stoltenberg said. "I want to thank athletic director,
Erin Sullivan for her confidence in me and for entrusting me with this responsibility. I'm eager to get to work with our student-athletes, build meaningful relationships, and create a culture of excellence that our players, alumni, and fans can be proud of. I can't wait to begin this next chapter and compete for championships together."
Stoltenberg has also served as a scout and site supervisor for Baseball Factory and Under Armour since 2015, evaluating talent and coordinating camps and showcase events throughout the West Coast. In addition, he spent nine years as a senior adjunct professor in the University of La Verne's Kinesiology Department.
A native of Grafton, Wisconsin, Stoltenberg played two seasons at the University of La Verne, appearing in 65 career games. He batted .290 with a .353 on-base percentage while helping the Leopards win the 2012 SCIAC championship. Prior to La Verne, Stoltenberg played two seasons at Merced College, where he earned all-conference honors and helped the Blue Devils capture a Central Valley Conference championship. He earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from La Verne in 2013 before completing a master's degree in management and leadership in 2015.
