THE YELLOWJACKETS LAST TIME OUT
- When things are going well, you seem to be a little luckier and things seem to bounce your way, even when you don't expect them to. When things aren't going well, often the opposite is true. Things aren't going well right now for the Yellowjacket men's hockey team. After being blown out at Stevens Point, the 'Jackets lost a lead late at River Falls Friday, before playing well enough to win but coming up one goal short against the Falcons Saturday at home. Wednesday night, the 'Jackets were back in Stevens Point, playing the second of two non-conference games with the Pointers. For the second time in as many games, the 'Jackets played well enough to win, but again the bounces didn't come and they came up just a bit short. Conor Witherspoon scored an unassisted goal at 1:58 of overtime, lifting Stevens Point to a 2-1 win over the Yellowjackets Wednesday at K.B. Willett Arena. Witherspoon's goal came seconds after the Yellowjackets came up empty after a pair of point-blank scoring chances. The Yellowjackets opened the scoring early. David Kaplan won an offensive zone face-off to the left of Stevens Point goaltender Eli Billing. The puck went back to John Stampohar, who pulled the puck to his left and wristed a shot through traffic past Billing at 2:37 of the first period. It stayed that way until the Pointers went on the offensive while a man down. Wilson Northey got the puck high in his zone and saucered a pass to the neutral zone, where Jordan Fader knocked the puck out of the air and went in alone on the breakaway. His wrist shot beat Yellowjacket goaltender Myles Hektor (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) between the legs with five minutes to go in the first period, tying the game at one. The goal was the 10th shorthanded goal of the season for the Pointers, and the third shorty allowed by the Yellowjackets this season. It stayed that way into overtime. The Pointers won the opening face-off of the overtime and held possession for nearly a minute. The Yellowjackets gained control of the puck and started up ice. Artur Terchiyev led the rush, and from the left circle had his shot beat Billing on the glove side, but it hit the inside of the post and stayed out. Terchiyev followed the play, retrieved the puck and centered to MacGregor Sinclair (Irma, Alberta/Irma School). Sinclair picked the lower right corner, but Billing kicked his left leg out and made a miraculous save, keeping it tied. From there, Witherspoon worked the puck down the ice and from the right circle beat Hektor high on the glove side, giving the Pointers the 2-1 win. Hektor finished the game with 35 saves on 37 shots. | Game Story and Stats
- The Yellowjackets lost to 4-3 decision to UW-River Falls. When things aren't going your way, sometimes, they really don't go your way. The 2021-22 season was going well for the Yellowjacket men's hockey team, as it worked its way into the middle of January riding a long unbeaten streak and sitting near the top of the WIAC standings as the stretch run began. Since then, the lineup has been ravaged by injuries, and entering play Saturday, the Yellowjackets had dropped back-to-back games for the first time. After a heartbreaking loss on the road at River Falls Friday, the Yellowjackets were looking to flip the script on the Falcons Saturday when the teams played the second game of their weekend series. It wasn't to be. River Falls jumped out to an early lead and the Yellowjackets were never able to battle all the way back, falling to the Falcons by the same score as Friday, 4-3, this time at Wessman Arena. | Game Story and Stats

The Yellowjackets' Dylan Johnson scored two goals in the first 6:26 of the game before Stout came back. Cole Beckstead scored at 6:51 of the first to put Stout on the board, but Superior made it a 3-1 game on Gavin Rassmussen's goal at 13:24 of the first.
