Hamline University 4, UW-Stout 2
MENOMONIE (January 11, 2020) - After nearly a month without playing a home game, UW-Stout hosted Hamline University. Hamline took a 3-0 lead and the Blue Devils fought back to get within one goal, but an empty net goal sealed the win for the Pipers.
It didn't take long for a goal to be scored in the game as Hamline went on a power play only 1:11 into the game. Hamline took advantage of the power play and Brandon Bissett scored for the Pipers to make the game 1-0.
A lot of back and forth action throughout the period, but Stout went onto a power play of their own with 3:36 left in the period. The Blue Devils had opportunities to tie the game, but couldn't find the back of the net.
In the first intermission, the Pipers led Stout 1-0. Shots were in favor of the Blue Devils 13-10.
In the second period, Stout went on another power play only 2:15 into the period, but the Pipers killed the penalty and the game remained at 1-0. The first five minutes of the period, Stout outshot the Pipers 9-0.
At 5:54 of the game, a Blue Devils player took a five minute major and Stout skated a man short for the next five minutes. But Stout's penalty kill flexed their muscles and killed off the penalty without allowing a goal.
After not scoring with a man advantage, the Pipers scored less than a minute after the power play at 11:36 of the period to make the game 2-0. Brandon Bissett beat Bisek for his second goal of the night. Going into the second intermission, shots were in favor of the Blue Devils 27-17.
In the third period, Hamline scored another quick goal in the period as the Piper's Kyle Wendorf scored to make it 3-0 at 2:13 of the period.
The next four minutes saw a lot of action. It all started with the Blue Devils going on a power play at 2:57. Stout took a penalty while on the power play and both teams skated four on four. During the four on four, Hamline took another penalty and the Blue Devils skated a four on three power play. Stout's
Konnar Dechaine scored the Blue Devils first goal with an assist from
Alex Bowe to make it 3-1 at 4:14 of the period. Both teams skated four on four for about 30 seconds and Stout had a power play for 40 seconds. While on the power play, Stout took another penalty to make it a four on four. Both teams didn't score during their power plays.
With only 3:47 left in the game, Stout's
Konnar Dechaine beat Evan Robert to score his second goal of the night with assists from
Landon Lushanko and
Raphael Gosselin. The game was within reach as the Blue Devils were down 3-2.
With only 1:28 left in the game, Stout pulled Bisek to gain an extra attacker, but Piper's Jackson Bond scored an empty net goal to make the final 4-2.
Evan Bisek ended the night with 20 saves for the Blue Devils. Evan Robert received the win and stopped 40 shots. Shots were in favor of the Blue Devils 42-24.
Next for the Blue Devils is a WIAC matchup against UW-River Falls on Tuesday, January 14 at the Fanetti Community Center. Start time will be at 7:00.
