MENOMONIE (February 24, 2022) - After missing a year of being contested because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship (presented by Culver's) resumes this year for its 45th championship to be held at UW-Platteville's Williams Fieldhouse Feb. 25-26.
For many of UW-Stout's athletes, this will be their first shot at performing at the WIAC indoor championship, but the Blue Devils bring back plenty of experience. The Blue Devils enter the meet ranked 24th in the latest NCAA Division III Women's Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index, as released on Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Team captain
Grace Maurer has posted the top time in the conference in the 400-meter with a time of 58.77-seconds. Maurer is also seeded seventh in the 200-meter (26.13), a race she finished 12th at the 2020 WIAC indoor championship. Maurer, along with returner
Kiley Lehman, competed as a member of the fourth-placed 4x400-meter relay. The team is currently seeded fourth (4:03.73). Lehman is seeded 18th in the 400 (1:01.56).
Sophomore
Hannah Zastrow, who last spring earned All-America honors in the outdoor 100-hurldes, is currently seeded second in the 60-hurdles with a school record time of 8.78-seconds. Nationally, she is ranked sixth. Zastrow is also seeded second in the conference in the high jump, an event she competed at the 2022 outdoor national meet, with a height of 5-feet, 4.50-inches.
Caitlin Harrison is seeded 11th in the 60-hurdles (9.45),
Kaylie Raths is 16th (9.62) and
Lexi Cole is 18th (9.83).
Freshman distance runner
Emily Cunningham is seeded second in the 3000-meter run (10:16.03).lan McKayla Felton is 18th in the 3000 (10:42.28) and
Libby Meyer is 19th in the 5000 (19:18.89).
Sydney Reisner finished 18th in the 800-meter at the 2020 WIAC indoor meet and is currently seeded 12th (2:22.02).
Dalie Thomas is 17th (2:24.72).
Mackenzie Huber, who earned field newcomer of the year award at the 2020 meet, is currently seeded fourth nationally in the shot put and will have solid competition at the conference meet because she is seeded third in the WIAC. Huber finished second in the shot put in 2020. Huber is seeded second in the weight throw (55-11.25) after finishing 11th in 2020. She is seeded 12th nationally in the weight throw.
Senior
Demi Ploor has been having a solid year and is sixth in the shot put (43-3.25) and 10th in the weight throw (50-4.50).
Payton Schneider is 16th in the weight throw (48-3.25).
Hannah Miller currently has two top five seeds in the horizontal jumps. The team captain is third in the triple jump (37-8.50) after finishing eighth in 2020 and is fifth in the long jump (18-6), only a few inches short of the school record.
Jenna Driscoll is 12th in the long jump (17-5.50) and 13th in the triple jump (34-5.50).
LaRissa Block is 15th in the long jump (17-0.50) and fellow freshman
Kehau Phillips is 16th in the triple jump (33-7.25).
Senior
Mariah Lang has been having her best year in the high jump and is currently ninth (5-1.25). Freshman
Abi Weishoff is 11th in the pole vault (10-8.75).
The 2021 championship was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, the Eagles won the 27th title in program history with 230 points. UW-Eau Claire placed second with 127.50 points, UW-Oshkosh third with 92, UW-Stevens Point fourth with 64, UW-Whitewater fifth with 49, UW-Stout sixth with 48.50, UW-Platteville seventh with 36 and UW-River Falls eighth with 15.
Competition at this year's meet will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 25, and 10 a.m. on Feb. 26. Medals will be awarded to the top-eight finishers in each of the individual events and the individuals comprising the top-six relay teams.
