REEDSBURG (October 9, 2022) -
Abbey Filipiak hit a collegiate-best round to finish third individually and UW-Stout finished with a solid third place team finish at the 2022 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Golf Championship Sunday at the Reedsburg Country Club.
Filipiak played even par on 17 of 18 holes on the third and final day to finish with a one-over 73, surpassing her previous career low of 74, to finish third Sunday. Filipiak opened on the first hole playing the par-4, 341-yard hole even. Filipiak followed that up with a one-over on the par-4, 321-yard second hole. The junior from Elk River, Minn., played the rest of the course even to maintain her one-over mark. Filipiak finished the meet at 236 (82-81-73), three strokes behind medalist Lexi Meade of UW-Eau Claire and two strokes behind second place finisher Ashton Sinak of UW-Whitewater.Â
As a team, the Blue Devils reduced their team score each day, finishing the final round with a score 313. Stout opened the meet with a 353, chopped that down to a 336 on the second day and finished with the 313, the third best single round of the season and the 16th best single round in school history, to finish with a three-day total of 1002.Â
UW-Whitewater and UW-La Cross tied for the team title at 971 strokes. The Warhawks won a one-hole playoff to earn the conference title nod and the NCAA automatic bid.Â
Kendra Swanson turned in her best score of the tournament on Sunday, hitting an 80, combining with her 89 and 86 to finish with a score of 255 to place 17th, her third consecutive WIAC top-20 finish.
Sydney Grimm placed 28th (
92-81-86 - 259). Freshman
Liz Rohl finished in a tie for 32nd (
90-90-85 - 265). Freshman
Hallie Tulip tied for 38th (
105-88-75). Her 75 was a collegiate-best and was the second time in her young career that she broke 80. Tulip hit a 79 at the St. Kate's Invitational two weeks ago.
Playing individually,
Madeline Kiley finished in a tie for 36th (
92-87-88 - 267),
Em Humphrey tied for 49th (
98-90-88 - 276),
Grace Warrner tied for 57th (
93-96-93 - 282) and
Andrea Smith tied for 66th (
99-97-98 - 294).Â
Kiley was selected to the WIAC All-Sportmanship team.Â
The meet wrapped up play for the fall.
