Luther College Norse Invite
DECORAH, Iowa (May 1, 2021) - The UW-Stout men's track and field team dominated the throws competition at the Luther College Norse Invitational Saturday, capturing not only first place in all four of the throws events, but had comp the vast majority of the top four finishers in each event. As a team, Stout accumulated 284.50 points and finished first of eight teams.
Jacob Bugella broke 200-feet in the hammer throw for the first time in his career. The Rice Lake junior scored a mark of 200-feet, 1-inch, a distance that ranks third in the country. Bugella's throw is only inches short of the top mark of 200-9.
Alec Benzinger (164-10) and
Kevin Ruechel (148-8) finished third and fourth in the event, respectively.
Ruechel and Benzinger finished 1-2 in the shot put and the discus throw. Ruechel won the shot with a mark of 54-8 and discus with a throw of 153-2, while Benzinger was second in the shot at 40-1.75 and in the discus at 148-9. Bugella was third in the discus (138-8) and
Will Hammen was fourth (137-7).Â
Nate Karau won the javelin with a career-best throw of 152-8.
Mason Barth was second (150-11) and
Nathan Skroch was fifth (146-10).Â
Stout fared well in the field events overall.
Noah Zastrow won the pole vault (16-4.50) and the long jump (22-6.50). The Blue Devils took the top four spots in the pole vault with
Jacob Tomazevic second a career-best jump of 14-8.75.
Hawkin Petron was third (14-2.75) and
Mason Barth was fourth (14-2.75).Â
Jack Roeber set a pair of collegiate-bests, finished second in the triple jump with a 46-9 and third with a 22-1. Petron was fourth in the long jump (20-11.75) and
Bobby Vang fifth (20-10).
Isaac Lee was third in the triple jump (43-6) and
Daniel Nesja was fourth (43-5.25).
Brandon Dick was fourth in the high jump (5-10.75).Â
In the running events,
Brent Heilman recorded the top time in the 200-meter, clocking a collegiate-best 21.37 seconds. Heilman was third in the 100-meter (11.04) and
Mackenson Steinberg was fourth (11.09).Â
Spencer Schultz won the 1500-meter run (4:02.34) and
Ian Williams was fourth (4:10.65).
Max Fore led the pack in the 5000-meter run in a time of 16-minutes, 28.51-seconds. Matthew Thomas was third (16:56.37) and
Christian Manthey was fourth (16:52.03).Â
Carter Wente won the 110-hurdles (15.26), with Barth third (15.80),
Noah Beck fourth (15.99) and
Hayden Zachgo fifth (16.91). The 4x400-relay team of Owne Jelinek,
Lucas Carroll, Keegan Puchinske and
Cody Lohrenz topped the field (3:22.53).
The Blue Devils return to action when they compete at the WIAC Track and Field Championship, presented by Culver's, Friday, May 7 and Saturday, May 8 at UW-River Falls.Â
