Kevin Ruechel set a UW-Stout school record in the indoor shot put and
Jacob Bugella won his fifth straight weight throw title as the UW-Stout track and field team closed out the 2021 indoor season.Â
Kevin Ruechel came into meet sitting second on the UW-Stout all-time shot put list. Ruechel left the meet with the school record, shattering his own career mark by more than two feet. Ruechel paced the field with a mark of 60-feet, 1-inch, far outpacing his own best mark of 57-10.25 and was nearly two feet better than Sam Elsner's 2018 mark of 58-2. The mark also surpassed Elsner's distance of 57-11.75 that won the 2018 national title.Â
Alec Benzinger was second in the shot put with a throw of 53-9.
Jacob Bugella continued his winning ways in the weight throw, both winning the event and extending his previous best. Bugella unleashed a throw of 62-feet, 5-inches, winning the event by more than four feet. Dustin Martin of UW-Whitewater was second with a toss of 59-2. Bugella's throw moves him to third on the UW-Stout all-time list.
Teammate
Alec Benzinger finished third in the weight throw with a career-best toss of 58-10, a mark that puts him fifth on Stout's all-time list.
Connor Walechka was eighth with a mark of 53-10.
Noah Zastrow won the pole vault for his fifth straight meet with a mark of 17-feet, 0.75-inches. Hawkins Petron placed sixth in the event (14-9).Â
Spencer Schultz finsihed third in the 3000-meter run in a season-best time of 8-minutes, 29.30-seconds.
Matthew Ryan was sixth at 8:39.77.Â
