NCAA Division III Performance List
MENOMONIE (February 7, 2021) - After the season-opening meet against UW-River Falls, several members of the UW-Stout men's track and field team find themselves ranked among the Top-20 in the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field rankings.
Pole vaulter
Noah Zastrow led his event last season from start to finish and it's no surprise the All-American senior from Spencer is back on top of the list. Zastrow cleared 17-feet, 3-inches in the dual meet with UW-River Falls Saturday, then moved the bar to 18-feet, where he missed narrowly.
Zastrow was joined on the Top-20 pole vaulting list by teammates
Hawkin Petron (14-9) and
Jacob Tomazevic (13-9.25), who are ranked ninth and 16th, repsectively.
All-American thrower
Kevin Ruechel is ranked third in the shot put (53-6.25).
Alec Benzinger is ranked ninth in the shot put (51-7.25) and 20th in the weight throw (52-11.5)..
Jacob Bugella is ranked 10th in the weight throw (55-3).
In the triple jump, freshman
Jack Roeber is ranked 10th (45-1.75) and
Daniel Nesja is ranked 14th (44-7).
Carter Wente is ranked 16th in the 60-hurdles (8.57-seconds).
BLUE DEVILS DEFEAT FALCONS
MENOMONIE (February 6, 2021) - The UW-Stout men's track and field team opened the 2021 season by running past UW-River Falls, 103-13, in a dual meet Saturday at the Sports and Fitness Center.
Noah Zastrow, who last year was the top-ranked pole vaulter in the country, cleared 17-feet, 3-inches, to break the facility record 17-2 in the event set by UW-La Crosse's Hans Schmidt in 2004. Zastrow then attempted to break his own school record of 17-8.25 when he moved the bar to 18-feet, narrowly missing on all three attempts.
The hurdles crew took the top four spots in the 60-hurdles, with
Carter Wente taking the top spot at 8.57 seconds, followed by
Mason Barth (8.69),
Noah Beck (8.73) and
Hayden Zachgo (9.13).
The throws crew did the hurdle crew one better, taking the top six spots in the shot put, led by All-American
Kevin Ruechel (53-6.25).
Alec Benzinger was second (51-7.25),
Max Johnson third (45-3.75),
Connor Walechka fourth (42-7),
Brady Phillips fifth (40-5) and
Nate Karau sixth (38-5). In the weight throw, Stout took the top three spots, led by
Jacob Bugella (55-3), Benzinger (52-11.50) and Walechka (52-1.25).
Cody Lohrenz was a double winner, taking the 200-meter (23.10) and the 400-meter (51.63). Lorenz led a sweep in the 200 with Wente second (23.11),
Caleb Green third (23.59) and
Owen Jelinek fourth (23.67). Jelinek was second (51.66) in the 400 and Green was third (52.39).
Benjamin LeMay won the 800-meter (2:07.83) and was followed by three teammates,
Kory Wiegert (2:08.63),
Henry LeBlanc (2:10.01) and
Christian Manthey (2:10.08). The Blue Devils took the top five spots in the mile with a 4:24.54, followed by
Trevin Nelson (4:27.31),
Brian Mathews (4:29.08),
Mitchell Popp (4:42.16) and
Nels Trandahl (4:46.85).
Jack Roeber and
Daniel Nesja were first and second in the triple jump, with Roeber hitting a mark of 45-1.75 and Nesja 44-7.
Bobby Vang was first in the long jump (20-1.5) and
Jakes Asembo was third (19-7).
Brandon Dick won the high jump (6-0) and Barth was second (5-10).
The 4x400-relay team of Beck, Dick, Zachgo and
Kade Sherry were first (3:41.86) and
Cade Hanson,
Henry Scheit, LeMay and Popp were second (3:48.01).
Mackenson Steinberg (7.15), Wente (7.25) and Vang (7.31) finished second, third and fourth in the 60-meter.
Of the 13 events contested, Stout captured first in 12 events.
Stout will host UW-Eau Claire, Saturday, Feb. 13 at 10 a.m.
