MENOMONIE (February 13, 2021) - The UW-Stout throwers took three of the top four spots in each of the throws events, the Blue Devil hurdlers set personal bests,
Spencer Schultz had an impressive day in winning the 3000-meter and
Noah Zastrow won two events, including extending his own facility record in the pole vault as Stout defeated UW-Eau Claire, 83-54, in a dual meet at the Sports and Fitness Center.
The throws crew recorded the top two spots in the shot put and the top three spots in the weight throw.
Alec Benzinger led the way by winning the shot put with a mark of 52-feet, 8-inches, then placed third in the weight throw with a personal best toss of 55-3.
Jacob Bugella won the weight throw, his second consecutive win in the event, with a personal-best mark of 57-0.
Connor Walechka was second in the weight throw with a personal record of 56-6.50.
Kevin Ruechel was second in the shot put (51-1.75) and
Max Johnson was fourth (44-10.25).
The Stout hurdlers captured second, third, fourth and sixth place finishes, with each runner setting a personal best.
Carter Wente was second (8.55-seconds),
Noah Beck thid (8.61),
Mason Barth fourth (8.66) and
Hayden Zachgo sixth (9.06).Â
Schultz paced the 3000-meter, taking a more than 13-second win as he separated himself from the field. Schultz clocked a time of 8-minutes, 38.34-seconds, with his nearest competitor clocking an 8:51.69.
Matthew Ryan was third (8:55.08).
Zastrow continues to extend his mark in the pole vault. Already the No. 1 ranked vaulter in the NCAA Division III coming into the meet with a mark of 17-feet, 3-inches. Zastrow pushed the facility record to 17-6.50.
Hawkin Petron was third (14-1.25). Zastrow also won the long jump with a mark of 21-7.50. Freshman
Jack Roeber was second in the long jump with a mark of 21-3.25.Â
Simon Lual was second in the triple jump (43-9.25),
Jonathan Loera was third (37-11.25) and
Jakes Asembo was fourth (37-6.75).
Brent Heilman was first in the 60m (7,02) and second in the 200m (22.93).
Mackenson Steinberg set a personal best (7.12) in finishing third in the 60. Wente was third in the 200m (23.53).Â
Trevin Nelson was second in the 800m (1:57.91) and
Henry Hughes was third (1:59.85).
Owen Jelinek ws third in the 400m (51.27).
Kory Wiegert won the all-Stout mile run (4:42.07) and
Henry LeBlanc was right on his tail for second (4:42.36).
Brandon Dick was second in the high jump (6-1.25), matching Eau Claire's Mitch Stegeman, but falling a place on misses.
The Blue Devils will host UW-La Crosse, Saturday, Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. in their final home contest of the year.
