UW-STOUT COACH JIM LAKE
- Jim Lake (16-44) is in his fourth season in 2021-22 as the head coach of the Blue Devils. Lake came to Stout after 10 seasons as an assistant coach at Ferris State. The Bulldogs won the 2017-18 NCAA Division II national title.
- Lake served at Ferris State University for a total of 10 years, the last five years beginning with the 2013-14 season as the program's top assistant men's basketball coach. Lake had served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Bulldogs in two different stints over the previous decade, working as a part-time assistant coach from 2011-13 before moving up to the full-time lead position, and as a volunteer assistant coach from 2003-06.
- During five seasons as the Bulldogs' top assistant coach, Lake helped Ferris State to four consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament championships and four consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, culminating in a 38-1 overall record and the 2018 NCAA Division II national title with a 71-69 win over Northern State University in March.
NORTHLAND COLLEGE COACH SCOTT SORENSEN
- Scott Sorenson begins his fourth year leading the Northland College Men's Basketball Program. Over the past three seasons, Sorenson has helped start a new era in LumberJack basketball. After taking over a downtrodden program (zero winning seasons since 1996), Sorenson's impact was immediately felt as the LumberJacks increased their win total in each of Sorenson's first 3 years, made improvements in nearly every major statistical category and increased their initial roster size to 18, the most student-athletes on the men's basketball roster in over a decade. Before arriving at Northland, Sorenson was a six-year veteran of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, spending the previous 4 seasons as the top assistant coach at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC). Sorenson also used his coaching prowess to serve as an assistant for the UMC softball team. Prior to his time at UMC, Sorenson spent two seasons helping rebuild the men's basketball program at Bemidji State University.
ALBION COLLEGE COACH JODY MAY
- Since joining the Albion coaching staff in 1997, Jody May has played a huge role in the success of the Britons basketball program. He was named the head coach prior to the start of the 2008 season. Carden currently has an overall record of 170-154. During his tenure, six Britons have earned a total of 10 all-MIAA first team awards during May's tenure as head coach: Andrew Holms (2009), J.C. Cruse (2010, '11), Kolin Kazen (2012), Jamezell Davis, Jr. (2019, '20), Caden Ebeling (2019, '20, '21) and Cortez Garland (2021). Additionally, Travell Oakes shared the MIAA's Defensive Player of the Year award in 2015 while Garland won the award in 2020.
May led the Britons to the 2019-20 MIAA Regular Season Championship, earning BCAM College Coach of the Year honors.
UP NEXT: After nearly two weeks on the road to open the season, the Blue Devils come home for a pair of games. Stout will host Lakeland University, Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m., then will host Buena Vista University, Friday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m.
