UW-Platteville Invitational Results
WINONA, Minn. (April 12, 2018) - After nearly a month hiatus, the UW-Stout track and field teams returned to outdoor action when they competed at the Spring, Sprang, Sprung Invitational at St. Mary's University Thursday. Due to weather forcing the cancellation of meets, the last time the Blue Devils competed outdoors was March 17 at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn.
Sam Elsner took a pair of first place finishes at St. Mary's and freshmen
Brent Heilman and
Cody Lohrenz each grabbed a pair of top three finishes in their first collegiate outdoor meets.
Elsner captured the hammer throw with a mark of 183-feet, 8-inches and topped the field in the discus with a mark of 177-5.
Anton Proksch was second in the discus (146-4) and freshman
Kevin Ruechel was fourth (138-5). Proksch was fifth in the hammer (164-9). Ruechel was fifth in the shot put (44-1.75) and
Alec Benzinger was fourth (45-5.25).
Heilman was fifth int he 100-meter dash with a time of 11.11, then finished third in the 200-meter dash (22.25). Lohrenz was tops in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.26 and was second in the 200 (22.24).
Mackenson Steinberg was third in the 100 (11.22) and
Ryan Bjornstal was fifth (11.44).
Lucas Carroll made his collegiate track debut. Carroll, who is also a member of the Blue Devil hockey team, took a fourth place finish in the 400 (51.11).
Mike Fifield was first in the 3000-meter steeplechase in a career-best time of 9-minutes, 57.55-seconds.
Christian Lucchesi was second in the pole vault (15-7) and
Robert Mesenburg was fifth (14-7.25).
Spencer Wilhelm was fourth (41-7) in the triple jump and
Isaac Lee was fifth (41-7).
Four Blue Devil men competed at the UW-Platteville Invitational, with three running in the 5000-meter run.
Zach Zimmerman led the Blue Devils with a 42nd place finish (15:18.91).
Dan Ressler finished 46th (15:21.30) and
Tyler Ellefson was 64th (15:41.80) in a field of 96 runners that was broken into four heats.
Joe VanGrinsven competed in the javelin (154-2), finishing eighth.
Four Blue Devil women competed at the UW-Platteville Invitational in the 5000-meter run. Jessica Petruzates led Stout with an 18th place finish (17:47.35) of 84 runners in four heats. Katie Repka was 42nd (18:18.17), Molly Perkins 55th (18:58.51) and Alex Ploeger 74th (20:08.05).
The St. Mary's meet was added to the schedule after several area meets were canceled due to impending inclement weather as well as current field conditions. The Platteville meet was moved forward two days due to the same storm predicted for the Upper Midwest.
Stout is scheduled to next participate at the Phil Esten Challenge at UW-La Crosse, Thursday, April 19 and Friday, April 20.
