MENOMONIE (September 11, 2011) - After a slow first half, the UW-Stout soccer team came alive in the second half and went on to a 2-1 win over North Park University Sunday at Nelson Field.

With the game scoreless after 60 minutes of play, Stout's Emily Stanke (Jr, Elk Grove Village, Ill) broke through in the 60th minute, getting assists from Grace Salwasser (Sr, Cottage Grove, Minn) and Kayla Seivert (So, Farmington, Minn).

The Blue Devils got what would prove to be the game winner in the 79th minute when Jenna Schlueter (Jr, Littleton, Colo) took a long shot, but dead on shot, from the left side at North Park goalie Katie Ibarra. Ibarra reached to grab the ball, but it fell off her hands and Jesse Lankford (So, Cedar Falls, Iowa) picked up the loose change from about three feet off the corner of the net.

The Vikings did score - the first goal against the Blue Devils this short season - inthe 84th minute when Anika Johnson sent a high looping shot over an outstretched Robbie Shelby (Fr, La Crosse/West Salem) into the upper left-hand corner of the net.

Stout (3-0-0) outshot the Vikings (1-3-1), 13-8, and put eight shots on net. Ibarra recorded six saves. North Park put four shots on frame, with Shelby stopping three.

Stout returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 14 when they travel to UW-River Falls, then will be at UW-Superior, Saturday, Sept. 17.
