MENOMONIE – The UW-Stout women's soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision to St. Catherine University on Wednesday evening at Nelson Field. With the loss, Stout moves to 1-1-1 overall, while the Wildcats improve to 3-0-0.
St. Catherine controlled much of the match, outshooting Stout 14-10 and building a commanding lead before the Blue Devils notched a late goal. The Wildcats struck first in the 16th minute when Ashley Fugitt capitalized on an assist from Ayah Makled to open the scoring. Bella Meier doubled the lead in the 30th minute off a pass from Emily Olson, sending St. Catherine into halftime up 2-0.
The second half saw the Wildcats pull away further. Olson added her own goal unassisted in the 57th minute, followed by Ceci Emery's unassisted tally in the 68th minute. Jaidyn Richter capped St. Catherine's scoring in the 72nd minute with a goal assisted by Lillia Gray.
Stout got on the scoresheet Kayla White found the back of the net unassisted in the 89th minute for her second goal of the season. The Blue Devils generated seven of their 10 shots in the second half, with White leading the team with four shots (three on target). Anna Odisho contributed three shots, while Tessa Pagel added two.
The Blue Devils return to action on Saturday, Sept. 6, when they travel to Superior, Wis. to face the Yellowjackets for a 3 p.m.match.
