VERONA, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Stout women's soccer team put up a strong fight on the road but ultimately fell to Edgewood College, 3-2, in a non-conference matchup at Reddan Park on Wednesday evening.
The Eagles (3-1-1) struck first in the opening half, with Greta Blau finding the back of the net unassisted in the 10th minute. Stout (2-2-1) responded with pressure throughout the period, outshooting Edgewood 13-7 and earning four corners. The Blue Devils' persistence paid off in the 30th minute when Wallisch scored her first goal of the game, assisted by
Tessa Pagel, to level the score at 1-1 heading into halftime.
Edgewood regained the advantage early in the second half, as Rylee Brotz capitalized on an assist from Kamy Luecke in the 49th minute to make it 2-1. The Eagles extended their lead to 3-1 in the 77th minute on an unassisted goal from Lacey Fabry.
In the waning moments, Wallisch delivered again with an unassisted goal in the 90th minute—her second of the match to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Wallisch led Stout's offense with four shots (two on goal), while
Kayla White added three shots. Goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Krengel made five saves in the full 90 minutes. The teams were evenly matched in shots at 20 apiece, with Stout holding a slight edge in shots on target (9-8). Edgewood had the advantage in corners (8-5).
UW-Stout returns to action on Saturday, September 13, when they host Minnesota-Morris at 5 p.m. at Nelson Field.
