ORLANDO, Fla. — The UW-Stout women's tennis team picked up its second straight win to open the Orlando spring break trip before closing the day against a tough Division II opponent, splitting a Tuesday doubleheader.
The Blue Devils opened the day with a 6–1 win over Webster University, building off Sunday's victory over Western Connecticut State to improve to 2–0 on the trip.
UW-Stout dominated doubles play against Webster, sweeping all three courts. The No. 1 tandem of Molly Garber and Ashlyn Dellemann set the tone with a 6–0 victory over Maggie McBratney and Cris Cristea, while Prajna Hosamane and Gretchen Murphy matched that score at No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 position was won by default, giving Stout an early 3–0 advantage.
In singles, the Blue Devils continued to control the match. Ashlyn Dellemann battled back at No. 1 singles for a three-set super tiebreak win, while Lexie Stein and Megan Kokesh each earned straight-set victories at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. UW-Stout also picked up wins by default at No. 5 and No. 6 to secure the 6–1 team result.
Later in the day, Stout faced a step up in competition against Division II Shippensburg University, falling 6–1 in a competitive match.
Molly Garber continued her strong spring at the top of the lineup, earning the Blue Devils' lone point with a straight-set win at No. 1 singles. The victory keeps Garber undefeated in singles this spring (3–0).
Garber and Dellemann also remained perfect in doubles play, picking up wins in both matches on the day to improve to 3–0 as a tandem this spring.
Despite the team result against Shippensburg, the Blue Devils showed fight throughout the lineup, highlighted by Gretchen Murphy, who pushed her match to a deciding super tiebreak at No. 5 singles.
