MENOMONIE, Wis. — The UW-Stout women's tennis team put together a competitive effort at home Saturday afternoon, but UW-River Falls came away with a 5–2 victory at the South Tennis Courts.
The Blue Devils got off to a strong start in doubles, taking two of the three matches to earn the early point. Ashlyn Dellemann and Molly Garber dominated at No. 1 doubles, cruising to a 6–2 win. At the No. 3 spot, the duo of Lexie Stein and Aspen Johnson also earned a 6–2 victory to put Stout ahead heading into singles play.
In singles, Garber pushed her opponent to three sets at the top spot before falling 6–3, 1–6, 6–2. Dellemann continued her solid play at No. 4 singles, rallying for a 3–6, 6–1, 6–2 win to give Stout its second team point of the day.
Despite several close sets across the lineup, River Falls pulled out the remaining matches to secure the team win.
The Blue Devils (3–8, 0–4 WIAC) will return to action on Friday, October 10, when they host UW-La Crosse at 2 p.m. at the South Tennis Courts.
