DE PERE, Wis. (March 7, 2026) – The UW-Stout women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule Saturday afternoon, battling throughout a tightly contested match before falling 5-2 to perennial NACC powerhouse St. Norbert College at the Green Bay Tennis Center.
The Blue Devils showed resilience across the lineup in their first competition of the spring, pushing several matches deep into sets and match tiebreakers against a talented St. Norbert squad.
St. Norbert took an early advantage in doubles, claiming the first match at No. 3 doubles. UW-Stout answered quickly at the top of the lineup as Molly Garber and Ashlyn Dellemann earned a decisive 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles to even the doubles session.
The deciding doubles match came at No. 2, where Prajna Hosamane and Gretchen Murphy were locked in a back-and-forth battle. St. Norbert ultimately pulled away late for a 6-4 win to secure the doubles point and a 1-0 team lead heading into singles play.
Garber quickly brought the Blue Devils back level in singles. The second-year was the first Stout player off the court, delivering a strong performance at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
St. Norbert regained the lead with a win at No. 6 singles, leaving four tightly contested matches still on court with the Blue Devils trailing 2-1.
Those remaining matches proved to be marathon battles, highlighting Stout's tenacity throughout the lineup. Lindsay Leuzinger came through with the Blue Devils' second point of the day, grinding out a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles.
Several other matches went down to the wire. Prajna Hosamane rallied after dropping the opening set at No. 2 singles to force a deciding match tiebreak before St. Norbert closed it out. Gretchen Murphy played one of the longest matches of the afternoon at No. 5 singles, splitting the first two sets before falling in a narrow 13-11 match tiebreak. Ashlyn Dellemann also pushed her No. 3 singles match deep into a second-set tiebreak before the Green Knights secured the point.
Despite the final score, the Blue Devils showed resilience throughout the lineup in their spring opener, with multiple matches coming down to the final few points.
