ORLANDO, Fla. – The UW-Stout women's tennis team opened the program's first-ever Orlando spring break trip in dominant fashion, sweeping Western Connecticut State, 7-0, Monday at the USTA National Campus.
Due to court availability, the match began with singles play rather than the traditional doubles point, but the Blue Devils quickly took control, winning all six singles matches in straight sets before completing the sweep in doubles.
At the top of the lineup, Molly Garber set the tone with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Erickah Tertulien at No. 1 singles. Prajna Hosamane followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2, while Ashlyn Dellemann earned a decisive 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3.
The Blue Devils continued their momentum through the rest of the singles lineup. Lindsay Leuzinger secured a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4, Gretchen Murphy rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5, and Lexie Stein closed out the singles sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6.
UW-Stout carried that strong play into doubles. Leuzinger and Dellemann teamed up for a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Murphy and Megan Kokesh captured a 6-3 win at No. 2.
At No. 3 doubles, Allie Adrian and Prajna Hosamane sealed the team sweep with a 6-1 victory over Elsie Sabol and Kate Robinson. The win marked Adrian's first career doubles victory for the Blue Devils.
The match was played at the USTA National Campus, one of the premier tennis facilities in the world, as UW-Stout begins a week of competition in the Orlando area.
