THIS WEEK IN BLUE DEVIL ATHLETICS: DEC. 1-7

MEN'S BASKETBALL

The Blue Devils men's basketball team dropped a pair of home games last week, falling 70-79 to UW-Superior and 77-81 to Augsburg.

Tyrel Creger averaged 19.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists last week, shooting 50.0 percent from the floor (15-30).

Justin Nelson scored a career-high 23 points on 9-12 shooting (75.0 percent) against UW-Superior. He also grabbed five rebounds and blocked two shots.

This week, Stout will host North Central (MN) on Wednesday, December 10 at 7 p.m. in the Johnson Fieldhouse and will travel to Houghton, Mich. to play Michigan Tech in an exhibition game on Saturday, December 13 at 5 p.m. (ET).

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The Blue Devil women's basketball team went 2-0 on the road last week, improving to 6-2 on the season. Stout defeated Bethany Lutheran 70-63 and UW-Superior 65-40, outscoring the Yellowjackets 28-4 in the fourth quarter.

Freshman Addy Verhagen averaged 10.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 2.5 steals while shooting 47.4 percent to lead Stout to a pair of road wins. She tied a career-high with 15 points (7-13) against UW-Superior. She had five assists in both games and now has five or more assists in a game four times this season. She leads the conference in assists with 27 (38th in the nation) and assists per game with 4.6 (37th in the nation).

The Blue Devils will host Augsburg University on Saturday, December 13 at Johnson Fieldhouse. Tip-off is set for 3:10 p.m. Before the game at 2:45 p.m., there will be a short Final Four Ring Ceremony and Banner Reveal to honor last year's team's run to the program's first-ever Final Four.

MEN'S ICE HOCKEY

The Blue Devil hockey team went 1-0-1 last weekend, earning five points. They earned a 2-2 draw on the road against Stevens Point, defeating the Pointers 2-0 in the shootout, before returning home to blank the UW-Superior Yellowjackets 2-0.

Freshman netminder Sebastian Monaco made 60 saves (.968 save %, 0.96 GAA). He made 40 saves at UW-Stevens Point to earn a 2-2 tie, then blanked the Pointers in the shootout to pick up the extra point. He then made 20 saves to blank the (RV) UW-Superior Yellowjackets at home to earn his first career shutout, lifting Stout to its first home win over UWS since Dec. 2021 and first home shutout over UWS since Jan. 2015. The only goals he allowed over the weekend were on the power play, stopping 11 shots across 9 opponent PP opportunities.

Stout will play River Falls in a home-and-home series this weekend. The Blue Devils and Falcons will play in River Falls on Friday, December 12, before returning to Fanetti Community Center on Saturday, December 13. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. both nights.
