This Week in Blue Devils Athletics: Oct. 6-12

THIS WEEK IN BLUE DEVIL ATHLETICS: OCT. 6-12

FOOTBALL

The Blue Devils rolled to a 42-17 win over Eau Claire to claim their 10th straight 'War on 94" trophy. 

Adam Moen was 10-16 for 227 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for 101 yards on 19 attempts (5.3 yard average) and two more scores. Moen led touchdown drives on Stout's first two possessions to give the Blue Devils an early 14-0 lead. He then ran in from 9 yards out just before halftime to give Stout a 21-10 advantage. He opened the 3rd quarter with back-back long touchdown passes to Davonte Evans 44 yards and 55 yards to break open the game and give stout a 35-10 lead. Before scoring his second TD of the game on the ground in the fourth to extend the lead to 42-10.

The Blue Devils are home Saturday, Oct. 11, hosting #11 UW-Oshkosh. Kickoff from Don and Nona Williams Stadium is set for 1:05 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL

The Blue Devils fell in straight sets 23-25, 20-25, 18-25 to No. 5 UW-Eau Claire. 

Brynn Hessel hit .375 with 4 kills and added four block assists. Lainey Todd had 17 assists per set in the Blue Devils 6-2 offense. She added 6 digs. 

The Blue Devils will travel to Duluth, Minn. to play the College of St. Scholastica on Tuesday, Oct. 7. First-serve is set for 7 p.m.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

The Blue Devils rolled to a 4-0 win over Buena Vista and open WIAC play with a 1-1 draw against Platteville. 

Kaitlyn Krengal played the first-half of a 4-0 win over Buena Vista to earn the combined shutout and the win. Against UW-Platteville, She made seven saves with several key stops to earn the 1-1 draw to earn Stout an important point

The Blue Devils return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 8, when they travel to Eau Claire, Wis. to face the Blugolds. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. at Simpson Field. Then they will travel to Oshkosh, Wis. on Saturday Pct. 11 to face the Titans. 

TENNIS

The Blue Devils fell 5-2 in a dual match with UW-River Falls on Saturday. 

Stout will play their final home match of the fall season on Friday, Oct. 10 when they host UW-La Crosse at 2 p.m. at the South Tennis Courts. 

WOMEN'S GOLF

The UW-Stout women's golf team dominated from start to finish at the WIAC Championship, capturing the program's first conference title since 2016 and fourth overall. The Blue Devils rolled to a commanding 48-stroke victory, the second-largest margin in tournament history, finishing with a 54-hole tournament with a 304-311-320-935 (+71).

Julia Imai repeated as the individual champion with a three-round score of 230 (74-77-79) to finish +14 on the par-72 5,709 yard Reedsburg Country Club Course. Teammate Brin Neumann took second place with a 233 (78-75-80) finishing three strokes back. Sophia Connett was named WIAC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.

The Blue Devils will travel Destin,  Fla. to close out the fall season at the Golfweek October Classic, Oct. 12-14 in Destin, Fla. At the Links Course at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.

 

MEN'S SOCCER

The UW-Stout Blue Devils earned a 0-0 draw with Buena Vista and tehn opened their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) schedule Saturday night, falling 3-0 to UW-Eau Claire at Simpson Field.

Eddie made 20 total saves in two matches this week for Stout. He earned his first collegiate clean sheet making 8 saves in a nil-nil draw against Buena Vista. Then at UW-Eau Claire Eddie saw 30 shots with 15 on target, making a career-high 12 saves to keep Stout in the game. 

The Blue Devils will look to bounce back when they travel to Winona, Minn.  on Wednesday, Oct. 8 to face Saint Mary's University and 7 p.m.
