THIS WEEK IN BLUE DEVIL ATHLETICS: Sept. 1-7

MEN'S GOLF

The UW-Stout men's golf team delivered an impressive performance at the Culver's Edgewood Fall Invitational, held at Glen Erin Golf Club on August 29-30, finishing second overall with a two-day total of 576 (+8).

Leading the charge for the Blue Devils was Ayrton Longe, who tied for third place individually with a score of 140 (-2), carding a 68 in the first round and a 72 in the second. Longe's consistent play set the tone for the team's strong showing. Close behind, Casey Peters and Tucker Johnson both finished tied for seventh with scores of 144 (+2).

Stout will travel to Aurora, Ill on Sept. 2 when they compete at the AU DoubleGun Invite at the Aurora Country Club. Then they will travel to Maple Plain, Minn. on Sept 6-7 to compete at the Minnesota Golf Classic hosted by Bethel University. 

MEN'S SOCCER

The University of Wisconsin-Stout men's soccer team battled to a 0-0 non-conference draw in their 2025 season opener against Crown College on Thursday afternoon at Old National Bank Stadium. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Max Kutz delivered a standout performance with eight saves to secure the shutout, as the Blue Devils (0-0-1) held firm despite playing with 10 men for over half the match.

The Blue Devils return to action on Sept. 2 when they host Martin Luther for a 5 p.m. kickoff at Nelson Field.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

The University of Wisconsin-Stout women's soccer team kicked off the 2025 season on a strong note, securing a 1-0 non-conference win over Hamline University on Thursday evening at Nelson Field. Junior Tessa Pagel scored the game's lone goal in the 74th minute, lifting the Blue Devils (1-0-0) to victory.

Stout then moved to 1-0-1 with a hard-fought 1-1 tie against Gustavus Adolphus on Sunday afternoon at Nelson Field. The Blue Devils struck first but couldn't hold off a second-half equalizer from the Golden Gusties (1-0-1).
Stout wasted little time asserting pressure, outshooting Gustavus 7-3 in the opening half. The breakthrough came in the 19th minute when junior midfielder Kayla White buried her first goal of the season, assisted by senior Mckenna Long. White's strike from the edge of the box gave the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead heading into halftime, rewarding a dominant stretch that included several near-misses from Anna Odisho and Berklee Reelfs.
UW-Stout will play two matches this week, hosting St. Catherine on Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m.  at Nelson Field. and traveling to Superior, Wis. on Saturday Sept. 6 to face the Yellowjackets at 3 p.m.

TENNIS

The Blue Devils open the 2025-26 season at the Rams invitational in Mount Vernon, Iowa over the weekend. Stout fell 0-7 to Edgewood University, beat Buena Vista 5-2 and fell 1-6 to host Cornell College.

In the match against BVU Stout's doubles play provided the early momentum. Megan Kokesh and Aspen Johnson rolled to a 6-0 victory at #3 doubles, while the #1 pairing of Hosamane and Garber clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win. The victory marked Hosamane's first collegiate win.

In singles, Stout captured four of six matches. Lindsay Leuzinger, Murphy, Kokesh, and Adrian all earned straight-set wins to seal the match. The victories for Murphy and Adrian were the first of their collegiate careers.

Stout will host Crown College on Friday Sept. 5 at 4 p.m. before making the short trip to Eau Claire to open WIAC play with a match against the Blugolds on Saturday Sept. 6 at 11:30 a.m.

CROSS COUNTRY

The Blue Devils opened the 2025 season at the 23rd Annual Jamie Block Alumni Meet, held at Riverside Park in Menomonie on Saturday, August 29.

The Blue Devils harriers will officially start the 2025 season at the Toni St. Pierre Invitational hosted by College of St. Benedict and St. John's University in Cold Spring, Minn. at the River Oaks Golf Course. 

VOLLEYBALL

The Blue Devils coming off a season where they qualified for the WIAC tournament for the first time since the 2018 season, are poised to make some noise in an extremely competitive WIAC. 

Five teams in the WIAC are ranked or receiving votes in the preseason top-25 poll. 

Stout returns All-WIAC selections Emma Barton (third in the WIAC and 24th in the nation with 1.13 blocks per set), Brynn Hessel (totaled 114 kills, 73 blocks, and 27 digs), and Brooke McCune ( hit .241 totaling 359 kills, 113 digs and 29 blocks â€¢ 36th in the nation and fourth in the WIAC with 3.90 kills per set, was 67th in the nation with 4.15 points per set).

Stout will travel to Waterville, Maine to play in the Colby Invitational Sept. 5-6. 

Stout will face #17 Colby College on Friday, followed by Main Maritime Academy and Endicott College on Saturday. 

FOOTBALL

The Blue Devils kick off their 2025 season on Saturday Sept. 6 when they welcome American Rivers Conference foe University of Dubuque to WIlliams Stadium. 

The Spartans, picked to finish fourth in the ARC, will face the Blue Devils (sixth in the WIAC) for the for first time

The Blue Devils return second-team All-WIAC quarterback Adam Moen. Moen led the WIAC in passing with 273.9 yards per game (13th in the nation) last season going  237-366 for 3013 yards (12th in the nation) throwing 25 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also led the team in rushing with 542 yards on 156 attempts for eight touchdowns.

On defense, Stout returns D3football.com preseason All-American Brooks Brewer a defensive back from Menomonie and 2025 team captain, received second-team All-WIAC and D3football.com second-team All-Region honors in 2024 as a sophomore. He played all 11 games, leading the WIAC with 103 tackles (44 solo, 59 assisted), recording 1.5 tackles for loss, tying for the conference lead with four interceptions, and adding five pass breakups.

WOMEN'S GOLF

The UW-Stout women's golf team kicked off the 2025-26 season in commanding fashion, claiming the team title at the Falcon Invite with its A squad posting a two-round total of 644 (+68) on Sunday at River Falls Golf Club. The Blue Devils finished 21 strokes ahead of runner-up Dakota Wesleyan in the 13-team field, while Stout's B team placed sixth at 687 (+111). Julia Imai led the charge with a runner-up finish at 156 (+12), carding an 81 (+9) in the opening round followed by a strong 75 (+3). Junior Brin Neumann secured third place at 159 (+15) behind rounds of 78 (+6) and 81 (+9). Ashleigh Johnson placed sixth with 163 (+19).

UW-Stout returns to action Sept. 6-7 at the Wartburg Invite in Waverly, Iowa.
