This Week in Blue Devils Athletics: Jan. 20-26

THIS WEEK IN BLUE DEVIL ATHLETICS: JAN. 20 - 26

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The Blue Devils moved into second place with a 4-1 WIAC record and 13-3 overall. Stout topped La Crosse 77-69 and Stevens Point 74-64. 

Raegan Sorensen led the Blue Devils to a pair of wins with two 20-point games. She averaged 23.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals a game while shooting 64.0 percent. At La Crosse, She shot 75 percent, scoring 20 points, seven rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot. At home against Stevens Point, she was 10-17 (58.8%) for a season-high 27 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two assists. She moved into third place in Stout's all-time scoring list with 1436 career-points.

On Wednesday Jan. 22 Stout will host rival UW-Eau Claire. Tip-off with the Blugolds is set for 7:05 p.m. in the Johnson Fieldhouse. Stout will then travel to Platteville, Wis. on Saturday, Jan. 25 to face the Pioneers. Tip-off from Williams Fieldhouse is set for 5 p.m.

 

MEN'S BASKETBALL

The Blue Devils dropped a pair of close games to ranked opponents last week. Stout fell 84-77 in No. 13 UW-La Crosse. Then fell in overtime to No. 18 UW-Stevens Point. 

Jacob Walczak averaged 23.5 points per game while shooting 45.9 percent from the field and 44 percent from three-point range (11-25). He scored 17 points against #13 La Crosse while shooting 46.7 percent. On the road at No. 18 Stevens Point, he scored a career-high 30 points, including going 8-16 from 3-point range and grabbing four rebounds in an overtime loss.

Stout will make the short trip to Eau Claire, Wis. to play the Blugolds on Wednesday Jan 22 at 7:05 p.m. in the Sonnetag Event Center. Stout will return home to face No. 1 UW-Platteville on Saturday, Jan. 25 for a 3:05 p.m. tip with the Pioneers. After the game on Saturday, Stout will hold a short ceremony honoring their seniors.

GYMNASTICS

The Blue Devils finished third of four teams at the Windy City Invite Friday night in Chicago, Ill. with a 187.000.  

Taylar Schaefer scored a personal best in the all-around, 37.425. She scored a 9.675 on the vault and 9.525 in the beam and floor. 

Effie Ferguson led the Blue Devils on the balance beam with a season high 9.775. She was the top Blue Devil on the uneven bars with a9.675 and scored a 9.425 on the floor.

Stout will travel to St. Paul, Minn. on Friday, Jan. 24 to face Hamline University for a dual meet with the Pipers. The meet is set to start at 6:30 p.m. from the Walker Fieldhouse. 
 

ICE HOCKEY

The Blue Devils topped (RV) Gustavus Adolphus 2-0 and tied St. Olaf 3-3, wining the shootout 2-1. 

Kullan Daikawa scored two goals and an assist in a road win over (RV) Gustavus Adolphus and a road tie with St. Olaf.  He scored a shorthanded goal in a 2-0 win over GAC. Then he had hand in both of Stout's first period goals at St. Olaf. Tallying a power play assist and less than two minutes late he scored to give Stout a 2-1 lead. 

Stout will host No. 11 UW-Stevens Point for a pair of games this Friday and Saturday, Jan 24 and 25. Puck drop from the Fanetti Community Center is set for 7 p.m. both nights.  
 

INDOOR TRACK

Stout opened the 2025 indoor track season with the Steve Terry Alumni Meet on Saturday. 

The Blue Devils will officially open the season this Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Pat Healy Classic in La Crosse, Wis. with a 12 p.m. start in the UWL Fieldhouse.
