This Week in Blue Devils Athletics: Nov. 18-24

FOOTBALL

The UW-Stout football team will play in the fourth annual Culver's Isthmus Bowl on Saturday, Nov. 23. The Blue Devils will play Wheaton College (Ill.) at 2 p.m. at Bank of Sun Prairie Stadium at Ashley Field in Sun Prairie, Wis.

Stout finished the season 6-4 overall and 4-3 in WIAC play and will face Wheaton College (8-2, 8-1).  The schools will meet for the first time with both teams making their first Isthmus Bowl appearance.

Four Blue Devils were named All-Region at last weekend's NCAA North Regional meet in Northfield, Minn.

Matthew Thomas placed 31st overall in the men's 8k with time of 25:14. 

Mckayla Felton, Brekkyn Lammert and Arely Jaime Luevano all qualified for the national meet after impressive top 10 finishes.

Felton is making her second trip to the national meet. This year she qualified with a third-place finish at regionals with a 6k time of 22:04.

Lammert is making her first appearance at the national meet after racing to a second-place finish at the regional meet in a time of 22:00.

Jaime Luevano finished eighth at the regional meet with a time of 22:16.

The National Championships will take place in Terre Haute, Ind. Nov. 23. The women's race will begin at 11 a.m. (ET)

ICE HOCKEY

The Blue Devils dropped a pair of road games over the weekend. Falling 5-3 to Bethel and 3-1 to Saint John's. 

Jacob Halvorson played a part in all three of Stout's goals against Bethel Friday. Scoring the first and assisting on the next two. He was 17-10 from the faceoff dot over the weekend. 

Nicholas Stevens scored the lone goal for Stout Saturday to bring his season total to four. 

Stout will open up WIAC play this weekend at home. The Blue Devils will host Northland College on Friday, Nov. 22 and UW-Eau Claire on Saturday, Nov. 23. Puck drop from Fanetti Community Center is set for 7 p.m. each night. 

MEN'S BASKETBALL

The Blue Devils dropped a couple of home games, falling to Hamline 90-70 and #16 Illinois Wesleyan 69-57.

Justin Nelson was 9-24 (37.5%) from the floor and 12-13 from the free throw line for 31 points, 15 rebounds, seven blocks, three steals and two assists. Averaging 15.5 points and 7.5 rebounds for the Blue Devils. Against IWU, He recorded his first double-double in a Stout jersey. Scoring 15 points and pulling down 10 rebounds while also blocking five shots. 

The Blue Devils will be back in action next Saturday, November 23rd, as they travel to Moorhead, Minn. to take on Concordia College at 3 p.m. at Memorial Auditorium.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Stout split a pair of home games. falling to #12 Gustavus 62-53 and rolling past Crown College 86-35. 

Lexi Wagner continued her hot start to the season, shooting 55.6 percent from the floor (10-18), and 7-12  (58.3%) from 3-point range to average 14.5 points and 6.5 rebounds a game for the Blue Devils. Against #12 Gustavus, she shot 75 percent and was 5- from deep for 17 points. She also pulldown eight rebounds. Against Crown College she scored 12 points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals,  and two blocks in 21 minutes on the floor. 

Stout will travel to Minneapolis, Minn. on Wednesday, Nov. 20 to face Augsburg University at 7 p.m. The Blue Devils will then return home to host Concordia Moorhead on Saturday, Nov. 23 with a 2 p.m. tip from the Johnson Fieldhouse.
