BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Mason Barth took second place in the heptathlon at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championships.
Mason Barth scored a personal best 5297 points in the heptathlon including setting career-high marks in four individual events en route to his national runner-up finish.
In the first event Friday morning, Barth ran the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.25 to finish eighth. He finished seventh in the long jump with a jump of 6.28 meters (20' 11.25"). He moved up to seventh with a personal best throw in the shot put with a throw of 11.52 meters (37'9.5"). He then wrapped up day one with a third place finish in the high jump with a career-best jump of 1.92 meters (6' 3.5") to finish day one in third place overall. Barth started day two with a fourth place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.37 seconds to fall back into fifth place. He responded in the pole vault with a personal best 4.80 meters (15' 9") jump to move into second overall with one event remaining. He ran the 1000 meters with another personal best time of 2:48.36 to finish the race third and in the overall point total.
Also competing for UW-Stout at the national meet was
Lance Pfrimmer who finished 19th overall in the men's 800 meters with a time of 1:57.64.
Kaden Martin finished 10th in the 60 meters hurdle preliminaries with a time of 8.17 seconds.
Connor Walechka finished 18th in the men's weight throw with a throw of 17.11 meters (56' 1.75')
The Blue Devils will be back in action April 1, when they open the 2023 outdoor track and field season at the Hamline Invitational in St. Paul, Minn.
