Soccer Preview: Blue Devils host Luther, visit Platteville

THIS WEEK'S GAMES: The Blue Devils (1-7-1, 0-0-0 WIAC) will host Luther College (4-3-1, 0-0-1 ARC), Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 7 pm. before opening conference play at UW-Platteville (6-2-1, 0-0-0 WIAC), Saturday, Oct. 1 at 3 p.m,

Stout finished the 2021 season with their best record since 2011 season at 11-8-1, 3-4-0 WIAC. Stout made their first trip to the WIAC Championship tournament since the 2017 season, but lost to UW-Stevens Point, 4-1. 

ON-LINE: All of Stout's home games are expected to be available in a live video stream and in live stats

PARKING: Parking on the UW-Stout campus is restricted during the business week. For games at Nelson Field during the week, please plan to park in Lot 29, which is located adjacent to Nelson Field. Do not park in Lot 4, which is a reserved lot for students that live in the residence halls.

PETS: While service animals are welcome, no pets are allowed at UW-Stout athletic events.

THE BLUE DEVILS PREVIEW:  Stout opens up the 2022 season with a 1-7-1 record. Julie McNamar started the first six games in goal allowing six goals and recorded one shut out before getting injured. Lily Shield has started the last two matches in goal  and has a .750 saves percentage On the offensive side of the ball, Caylee Boone leads the team in points with her two goals. Marissa Steele and Liv Winkler are the other Blue Devils who have found the back of the net. Both of these goals came against St. Norbert. Steele has also recorded an assist along with teammates Rachel Younker and Carly Kauffman. Freshman defender Hailey Hagman has recorded the most minutes with 742 minutes. WIAC PRESEASON POLL: The Blue Devils were picked to finish sixth in the WIAC, according to a preseason poll by league coaches and sports information directors.

A LOOK AT LUTHER COLLEGE:  The Norse are 4-3-1 on the season. They have attempted 112 shots with 56 on target. Their shots percentage is 0.098. Luther's goaltenders have split time and have a combined .731 saves percentage. Maggie Haller and Emma Lin led the Norse offense with three goals apiece.  |  2022 Statistics

A LOOK AT PLATTEVILLE:  The Pioneers are 6-2-1 and are averaging just over two goals per game. The Pioneers have attempted 133 shots with 65 on target and have found the back of the net 21 times this season. 11 different players have scored for Platteville. AWARDS: 2021: Marissa Steele was selected to the All-WIAC Conference team along with earning All-Region honors...Hailey Kane also made an appearance on the All-WIAC team for her work in the 2021 season...Marissa Steele was the WIAC/Kwik Trip athlete of the week and the UW-Stout athlete of the week, Sept. 14, after scoring two game winning goals against St. Scholastica and Cornell College...Liv Winkler was the UW-Stout athlete of the week after scoring a goal in each of the first two games of the season, including the game winner in the season opener against Concordia-Moorhead.

TEAM CAPTAINS: Blue Devil team captains for the 2022 season are Caylee Boone, Marissa Steele, Rachel Younker and Julia McNamar.

UW-STOUT COACH RYAN RAUFUS: Coach Ryan Raufus (72-99-21) is in his 12th year as the head coach of the Blue Devils in 2022. Raufus played his college ball at Springfield College in Massachusetts and came to Stout after coaching at La Crosse Logan High School and La Crescent, Minn., High School. (Raufus began the 2022 season at 71-93-20)

DOWN THE ROAD: The Blue Devils will be at St. Mary's University, Wednesday, Oct. 5, then return home for homecoming by hosting UW-Oshkosh, Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m.
