Steele's goal in overtime lifts Blue Devils to win over Platteville

UW-Stout 2, UW-Platteville 1

MENOMONIE (October 1, 2021) - Marissa Steele scored from the top of the box to the opposite side of the net with less than two minutes remaining in overtime to lift UW-Stout to a conference-opening 2-1 win over UW-Platteville Friday at Nelson Field.

Steele ran onto a ball played by Rachel Younker, dribbled the ball from the left side to the middle of the box and went opposite corner for her fourth goal of the season.

Lexi Boyd put the Blue Devils (8-3-1, 1-0-0 WIAC) on the board first when she scored on a penalty kick in the 61st minute after the Pioneers were called for a hand ball in the box. The Pioneers' Lauren Lodico answered back to knot the game in the 66th minute of the game for Platteville (6-1-2, 0-1-0 WIAC).

Both Platteville goalkeeper Emma Ball and Stout goalkeeper Haley Vokaty recorded seven saves. Platteville out-shot Stout overall, 19-13.

Stout returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 6 when they host Bethel University at 7 p.m.
