Luther College 2, UW-Stout 1
MENOMONIE (September 25, 2016) -
Hannah Kirchner (Fr, La Crosse) saw only a little bit more than five minutes of action, but the freshman was able to accomplish what no other UW-Stout player was able to do during the game - get into a position where she would score.
Kirchner entered the game in the 85th minute along with
Melissa Rice (So, Madison) and
Jenna Swenson (So, St. Paul, Minn), with the Blue Devils trailing Luther College 2-0. Three minutes later, Kirchner accepted a pass from
Sydney Kasper (So, Owatonna, Minn) while in the box and put the shot to the opposite corner of the net to put Stout on the board and score her third goal of the season. But Stout was not able to get another offensive threat off and lost to the Norse, 2-1, at Nelson Field Sunday.
The Blue Devils (2-5-1) were outshot on the day, 16-5, but did manage to keep Luther from scoring - with the exception of a nearly six minute span in the second period.
Following a scoreless first half, the Norse (4-2-1) got on the board in the 74th minute on a goal by Ellie Bunz. In the 79th minute, Luther doubled the score on a goal by Melisse Chasse and took a 2-0 lead.
Lynn Johnson (Fr, Chaska, Minn) recorded three saves on the day for Stout, while Luther's Lauren Thormodsgard recorded one save.
Stout will resume action when they travel to UW-Whitewater, Saturday, Oct. 1 to open WIAC play with a 4 p.m. start.
