THIS WEEK'S GAMES: The Blue Devils (0-0-0, 0-0-0 WIAC) finished the 2021 season with their best record since 2011 season at 11-8-1, 3-4-0 WIAC. Stout made their first trip to the WIAC Championship tournament since the 2017 season, but lost to UW-Stevens Point, 4-1. Stout will open the 2022 season when they travel to Hamline University (0-0-0 0-0-0 MIAC) Thursday, Sept. 1, then open at home by hosting Augsburg University (0-0-0, 0-0-0 MIAC), Saturday, Sept. 3 at 1 p.m.

PARKING: Parking on the UW-Stout campus is restricted during the business week. For games at Nelson Field during the week, please plan to park in Lot 29, which is located adjacent to Nelson Field. Do not park in Lot 4, which is a reserved lot for students that live in the residence halls.
PETS: While service animals are welcome, no pets are allowed at UW-Stout athletic events.
A LOOK BACK AT THE 2021 BLUE DEVILS: Stout had one of their best seasons in recent memory scoring an average of 1.55 goals per game while only allowing 1.20. THE BLUE DEVILS PREVIEW: The Blue Devils come into the 2022 season with the largest roster in school history, with 35 players listed, which includes a freshman class of 15 and a sophomore class of 13. All region midfielder Marissa Steele returns to lead Stout's offensive attack as Stout returns 11 of 13 of their top scorers from 2021. Steele, a senior midfielder, led the team offensively, scoring five goals and dishing off eight assists for 18 total points to earn first team all-conference honors and third team all-region honors. Liv Winkler, a sophomore forward, was the team's leader in goals with six and passed off three assists for 15 points. Stout returns seniors Caylee Boone, Rachel Younker, Whitley Carothers and Julia McNamar. All-conference defender Hailey Kane returns in the backfield. THE BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT: UW-Stout found out how hard it was to defeat a team in back-to-back meetings. The Blue Devils lost a 4-1 decision to UW-Stevens Point in the first round of the WIAC Tournament, presented by Culver's, Tuesday afternoon at the UW-Stevens Point Soccer Bowl. The Blue Devils (11-8-1), who posted the most wins in a season since 2011, had defeated the Pointers, 2-1, Saturday, Oct. 30, and turned around and headed back to Stevens Point for the first round conference game. | Stevens Point Game Story and Stats
WIAC PRESEASON POLL: The Blue Devils are picked to finish sixth in the WIAC, according to a preseason poll by league coaches and sports information directors. | 2022 WIAC Preseason Poll
A LOOK AT HAMLINE UNIVERSITY: Last year, Hamline finished the season with a 7-8-1 (3-7-1 MIAC) overall record. Cailey Schmitt and Anna Browne led the team with five goals each, Schmitt also added four assists to her point total. Schmitt's accolades from last year also include an All-MIAC Honorable Mention. Taylor Sayles was the lone Piper on the All-MIAC Conference Team, as the defender helped the team to seven shutouts and 1.62 GAA. The defensive Pipers were outshot 320-132 on the season, only shooting and average of 8.3 shots a game, compared to their opponents 20. They did tend to be more accurate then their opponents, with a 57-percent shot-on-goal percentage compared to their opponents 50-percent. | 2021 Statistics
THE LAST TIME HAMLINE AND STOUT MET: UW-Stout had several opportunities late, but could not find the back of the net as Hamline University carried a 1-0 win out of Nelson Field Sept. 29, 2021. Hamline scored what would prove to be the only goal of the game coming out of halftime when Emily Hillis scored in the 49th minute. The Blue Devils had a couple of chances late, including a shot by Carly Kauffman about five minutes after the goal the Hamline goalkeeper Lauren Cicora swatted away. Hailey Kane who put the ball right into the Hamline goalies' midsection and Abbi Moreland chased down a ball that Cicora fell on. The Pipers had only the one shot on goal, while Stout put three shots on net with Cicora making two saves and a Piper defender swatting away another chance. THE SERIES: The Pipers narrowly lead the series, 8-7-2, that started in 1996. The Pipers have won the last two games (2021, 1-0; 2019, 3-0), both by shutouts, but Stout won the previous two matches (2018, 2-1; 2017, 3-1). | History
A LOOK AT AUGSBURG UNIVERSITY: Finishing the 2021 season at 9-7-2 (6-4-1 MIAC), the Auggies season came to an end in the quarterfinals of the MIAC playoffs, falling to Gustavas Adolphus, 0-1. Leading the way for Augsburg was Jennifer Bobaric, who finished the season with 10 goals, second in the MIAC, and three assists. Bobaric, along with defender Jen Masello, were the two Auggies to receive a place on the All-MIAC team. Ana Ortiz and Jaelyn Nedelcoff were behind her with five goals each. Nedelcoff earned the MIAC Rookie of the Year award for her first season in the MIAC. Ortiz, along with teammate Molly Conners, earned Honorable Mention at the MIAC post-season awards. As a team, they were about even with their opponents, scoring 24 goals compared to their opponents' 25, but shot 288 shots compared to their opponents' 212. THE LAST TIME AUGSBURG AND STOUT MET: The teams last met to open the 2009 season at Nelson Field. The Auggies scored in the 60th minute and held on for a 1-0 win. | Game Story and Stats
THE SERIES: The teams have met only five times and the Auggies have won all five meetings. The teams first met in 1995, in Stout's inaugural season, and the Auggies were Stout's first-ever opponent, Sept. 10, 1995. The Auggies took a 7-0 win out of Nelson Field. | History
AWARDS: 2021: Marissa Steele was selected to the All-WIAC Conference team along with earning All-Region honors...Hailey Kane also made an appearance on the All-WIAC team for her work in the 2021 season...Marissa Steele was the WIAC/Kwik Trip athlete of the week and the UW-Stout athlete of the week, Sept. 14, after scoring two game winning goals against St. Scholastica and Cornell College...Liv Winkler was the UW-Stout athlete of the week after scoring a goal in each of the first two games of the season, including the game winner in the season opener against Concordia-Moorhead.

UW-STOUT COACH RYAN RAUFUS: Coach Ryan Raufus (71-93-20) is in his 12th year as the head coach of the Blue Devils in 2022. Raufus played his college ball at Springfield College in Massachusetts and came to Stout after coaching at La Crosse Logan High School and La Crescent, Minn., High School. DOWN THE ROAD: The Blue Devils have three games next week, traveling to UW-Superior, Tuesday, Sept. 6, the day before classes begin at Stout, with a 4 p.m. kickoff. The Blue Devils host St. Norbert College, Thursday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m., then travel to Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., Saturday, Sept. 10 for a 3:30 p.m. contest with the Cobbers.
