Mikala Bugge receives WMG Humanitarian Award

MENOMONIE (May 4, 2022) - UW-Stout's Mikala Bugge (Sr, Oakdale, Minn) is the recipient of the 2022 WMG Humanitarian Award, an award sponsored by the Waznik Moseler Group, that calls attention to and recognizes the student-athletes who put sports into proper perspective, who encompass teamwork, campus and community in their everyday lives and put others ahead of themselves.

The award has been presented annually since 2012 by WMG Waznik, Moseler Group of Menomonie.

Bugge, a member of the Blue Devil gymnastics team, who earned her undergraduate degree in vocational rehabilitation, is currently pursuing her master's degree in rehabilitation counseling.

Bugge has been involved in both the UW-Stout and Menomonie area communities.
 
A member of the gymnastics team's leadership team, Bugge has volunteered with the St. Croix Valley United Way low income assistance program, has been a volunteer community support program case manager with Dunn County Human Services, and has volunteered with the Salvation Army with the local Stepping Stones Food Shelf.

A five-time gymnastics All-American, Bugge is the 2022 national champion on the vault and has earned All-America honors in the all-around, balance beam and three times on the vault. Bugge was the conference champion on the floor exercise in 2019, took third in the all-around in 2019, was fifth on the vault in 2019 and third on the vault in 2017. 

Bugge plans to pursue a career as a vocational rehabilitation counselor. 

"WMG is proud to recognize student-athletes who put sports into proper perspective, who encompass teamwork, who include campus and community into their everyday lives and who put others ahead of themselves,"  said Bryan LaVoy a financial advisor from WMG Waznik, Moseler Group.  "We acknowledge student-athletes with charcter, who care and believe in helping others and who work hard at making our world a better place."

"By placing a spotlight on these individuals," LaVoy continued, "we are not only acknowledging their accomplishments, but we strive to magnify their ability to inspire everyone in this room, our youth and the community as a whole."

Also nominated for the award was Drew Scott of the men's basketball team, TYreese Alexander of the men's basketball team, Drew Scott of the men's basketball team, Mariah Lang of the women's track and field team, Shannon Jones of the softball team and Sean Borgerding of the football team.
