Blue Devils cross country teams earn all-academic awards

MENOMONIE (January 27, 2022) - The UW-Stout women's and men's cross country teams and seven student-athletes have earned 2021 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Awards, the organization announced recently.

The Blue Devil women's team was selected as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for the 18th consecutive season and the men for the 12th straight year. The Blue Devil women have a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.456, while the men have a team GPA of 3.415. The Blue Devil women were one of eight WIAC teams to earn the honor, while the men were one of six teams. 

Four members of the Blue Devils men's team earned individual all-academic honors, while three members of the women's team were selected as all-academic. 

Grant Magnuson (Fr, River Falls), a business administration major, Matthew Ryan (Jr, Oconomowoc), a computer and electrical engineering major, Spencer Schultz (Sr, Rosemount, Minn) a special education major, and Ian Williams (So, Waterford), a mechanical engineering major, were honored from the men's team, while Katelyn Brockman, (So, Pulaski), a food science and technology major, Emily Cunningham (Fr, Wisconsin Dells), a dietetics major, and McKayla Felton (Fr, Muskego), business administration major, from the women's team received USTFCCCA All-Academic honors. For Ryan, it is his second time selected as USTFCCCA All-Academic. 

In total, there were 459 athletes (203 women, 248 men) who earned All-Academic mention from the USTFCCCA in NCAA Division III. In order to be named USTFCCA All-Academic, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) and finish in the top-25 percent at their respective regional.

A total of 163 institutions earned the women's scholar award while 137 institutions secured the men's award.  To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, programs must have compiled a cumulative GPA or 3.10 or higher on a 4.00 scale.
