THE 2021-22 BLUE DEVILS:
- The Blue Devils have been a danger for cardiac health the last two games where Raegan Sorensen, in back-to-back games, hit the game-winning shot just before the buzzer. Sorensen has been having a strong freshman season off the bench and the guard leads the Blue Devils in scoring, averaging 12.8 points per game, eighth in the WIAC. Sorensen, a two-time WIAC/Kwik Trip Athlete of the Week and now a D3hoops.com Team of the Week recipient, has had two games with 25 points, including Stout's last outing against UW-Eau Claire and threatened the school record of 39 points when she tossed in 36 points against Aurora University in late December. Sorensen leads the team in rebounds with 5.0 per game, is among the leaders in assists (1.4/game) and leads the team in steals with 33. Sorensen has gotten to the free throw line more than any other Blue Devil player, although Amanda Giesen is right behind her. Sorensen is 63-86 (.759) from the line, while Giesen is 55-82 from the line (.661). Sorensen is shooting 52.1 percent (74-142) from the floor - third in the WIAC - and has hit 9 of 24 3-pointers. Sorensen leads the team in blocked shots with eight.
- Giesen is averaging 12.5 points per contest, ninth in the WIAC, and has 4.4 rebounds. Giesen is shooting 74-152 (.487) from the floor, eighth in the WIAC. Giesen has scored in double digits in 14 of 17 games.
- Anna Mutch is averaging 11.1 points, 13th in the WIAC, and is fourth in the WIAC in rebounds at 6.5. Mutch is the team's leader in assists, tallying 52 total for a conference high average of 3.1. As a freshman, Mutch last year was averaging 1.9 assists. She has actually kicked up her scoring average a tick or two. During the 2021 COVID season, Mutch averaged 10.6 points over nine game.
- Lauren Arenz has dished off 40 assists for a 2.3 per game average, 10th in the league and has eight blocked shots, 12th in the conference. Arenz is also among the team leaders in 3-point shots, draining 11. Only Sam Schaeffer has more 3-point shots than Arenz with 14 long-range bombs. Schaeffer is averaging 6.6 points.
- Sole senior Lizzy Olsem is averaging 7.9 points and 3.4 rebounds.
- As a team, Stout is averaging 69.6 points and giving up 67.7.

STOUT LAST TIME OUT:
- The Blue Devils ran their winning streak to four games with a couple of nail-biters, winning on the last basket of the game in both contests, downing UW-Stevens Point, 63-61, Jan. 19, and UW-Platteville, 69-67, Jan. 22.
- Raegan Sorensen hit the game-winner as the time ticked off to lift UW-Stout to a 69-67 win at UW-Platteville Saturday on Bo Ryan Court. The closely played contest featured 10 tied scores, five in each half. Stout took a 67-65 lead on a free throw by Amanda Giesen and a free throw by Sorensen. But the Pioneers' Maiah Damask tied the score with a pair of free throws, setting up Sorensen's winner. Sorensen got the inbound pass from Sam Schaeffer. For Sorensen, it was her second game-winning shot in as many games. The freshman hit the game-winner against UW-Stevens Point Wednesday. Sorensen finished the game with 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Anna Mutch led Stout with 16 points and Giesen had 13 points. Domask led all scorers with 23 points. Brynlee Nelson scored 17 points, Sarah Mueller 12 and Taylor Gilbert 11. Stout led at the end of the first period, 10-7, but Platteville took a 28-24 halftime lead. The Blue Devils took the lead back by the end of the third period, 47-44. | Game Story and Stats
- Freshman Reagan Sorensen connected on a buzzer-beater to seal the win for Stout against UW-Stevens Point on Wednesday night in Johnson Fieldhouse. Stout played from behind the whole game as Stevens Point jumped out to a quick lead. The Blue Devils continued to stay on the heels of the Pointers before finally taking the lead with only a minute left. The Pointers were able to tie it back up at 61 a piece, but Sorensen nailed a jumper from around the left elbow as time expired to end the Pointers hope for overtime. | Game Story and Stats

THE FALCONS LAST TIME OUT
- River Falls proved how balanced this league could be when they picked up their first conference win of the season with a 73-64 win over UW-Oshkosh, Feb. 22. The Titans are the defending WIAC tournament champion. The Falcons lost 62-49 to UW-Eau Claire, Jan. 19.
- River Falls knocked off No. 23-ranked UW-Oshkosh Saturday afternoon at Page Arena, defeating the Titans 73-64. THE COACHES:
UW-STOUT:
- Hannah Iverson (45-34) is in her fourth year in 2021-22 as the head coach of the Blue Devils.
- Prior to becoming the Blue Devils' head coach, Iverson was the director of player development for women's basketball at NCAA Division I UW-Green Bay, a position she began in October, 2016. As well as working directly with the team, Iverson managed the program's operating budget, coordinated team travel, co-directed summer camps and clinics and handled all aspects of team film. She assisted in the set-up of on-campus recruiting and coordinating official and unofficial visits for potential recruits. Iverson held a similar position - director of basketball operations - at the University of Illinois from 2014-16.
- Iverson spent two years at NAIA member Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa, as an assistant women's basketball coach for the 2012-14 school years. Iverson was in charge of guard development in a season where she helped the Saints to the 2014 Association of Independent Institutions tournament championship, earning Ashford a berth in the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Championship tournament, the first conference title and appearance in the NAIA D-II tournament in Saints history.
- A member of the UW-Green Bay women's basketball team from 2008-12, playing as Hannah Quilling, Iverson finished her career in the top 10 for games played as the Phoenix posted a 122-13 record over her four years. The team was 68-4 in Horizon League play and advanced to the NCAA Division I tournament four times, including one trip to the Sweet 16. She led the Horizon League in assist-to-turnover ratio in 2011-12, was sixth in steals per game and ninth in assists per game. She was also named to the Horizon League Honor Roll, earned the UW-Green Bay Chancellor's Leadership Medallion, was a two-time recipient of the UW-Green Bay University Leadership Award and the Patricia Hinckley Scholarship, and won the JoAnne Jennings Award in 2012.
- Iverson has gotten to 30 career wins faster than any other Blue Devil basketball coach, men or women. Iverson reached her 30th win in 42 games. Mark Thomas needed to turn around a women's basketball program that had won only two games the previous two seasons before he arrived. Thomas needed 75 games to reach 30 wins, but once he did, he kept building and became the winningest basketball coach in Blue Devil history, both men and women. On the men's side, Ray Johnson needed 59 games to reach 30 wins. Dewey Mintz needed 67 games to reach 30, John Muraski needed 63 and Eddie Andrist needed 59 games.
UW-RIVER FALLS COACH BLAKE DUDONIS
- Blake DuDonis completed his second season at the helm of the UWRF women's basketball program in 2020-21. In his second season, just an eight-game conference schedule due to COVID-19, the team greatly improved from the year before and showed why they are poised to make a run towards the top of the WIAC sooner rather than later. Despite no non-conference games to gear up for the vaunted WIAC, DuDonis tailored an offense that saw the team increase its scoring by nearly 17 points per game from the previous season, one of the largest improvements in the country. With that offense leading the way, the Falcons took down both UW-La Crosse and UW-Stevens Point for the first time since the 2017-18 season. The Falcons led the league in possessions per 40 minutes and three-pointers made per game, while also finishing 12th in the entire country in fewest turnovers per game. Under his tutelage, Jenna Zeman and Macy Nilson both earned all-conference nods. A transfer, Nilson averaged 12.7 ppg and 5.7 rpg after averaging 5.1 ppg and 2 rpg at her previous institution. Zeman averaged a career high 11.9 ppg while holding a positive assist-to-turnover ratio for the first time in her career.
CONFERENCE: UW-Stout is a member of the eight-team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) along with UW-Eau Claire. UW-Oshkosh, UW-La Crosse, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Platteville, UW-River Falls, and UW-Whitewater. The Blue Devils were picked to finish sixth in a preseason poll conducted by WIAC coaches and sports information directors. UW-Oshkosh was tabbed to win the league. Whitewater was picked second, Eau Claire third, La Crosse fourth, Stevens Point fifth, Platteville seventh and River Falls eighth.
UP NEXT: Stout will be at UW-Stevens Point, Wednesday, Feb. 2, then will host UW-Oshkosh, Saturday, Feb. 5 for Alumni Day.
