MENOMONIE – The University of Wisconsin-Stout head women's basketball coach Sam Clayton has announced the hiring of Mattea Voss as the program's assistant coach. With a remarkable coaching and playing background, Voss brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the Blue Devils' program.
Mattea Voss joins the UW-Stout women's basketball program after a successful stint at St. Cloud State, where she served as an assistant coach for the past four years. During her tenure, Voss played a pivotal role in various aspects of the program, including player development, operations, strategic planning, and recruiting. Her efforts contributed to notable achievements, such as recruiting and coaching an All-American, an All-Region selection, ten All-Conference honorees, and two Conference All-Defensive Team members.
"I'm really excited to add Mattea to the coaching staff," head coach Sam Clayton said. "She brings outstanding basketball knowledge, strong recruiting connections, and a passion for mentoring young women through basketball. Her energy and commitment to building relationships will make an immediate impact on our program and our community."
In her first season with St. Cloud State, Voss helped guide a young roster to a 17-10 overall record, with a 14-8 mark in NSIC play. Under her guidance, the Huskies boasted the No. 2 scoring defense in the NSIC and were led by standout players like First Team All-NSIC forward Katrina Theis and true freshman Jada Eggebrecht, who earned All-NSIC honors.
Before her time at St. Cloud State, Voss coached the WI Playmakers 15U-17U AAU teams, and served a season on the bench at UW-Oshkosh. As a student assistant at UW-Oshkosh, she contributed to the team's NCAA Elite Eight appearance and a 22-7 record. Her contributions were recognized with an invitation to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association "So You Want To Be A Coach" program.
"I am extremely excited for the opportunity to join the UW-Stout Women's Basketball program," Voss said." UW–Stout is a university that prioritizes academic excellence and supports the success of its student-athletes and athletic programs. I'm grateful to learn from and work alongside Coach Clayton as we begin this new chapter built on a foundation of hard work, accountability, and respect. I am honored to be a part of Blue Devil athletics and can't wait to get started."
Voss's own collegiate playing career at UW-Oshkosh was equally impressive. From 2018-19 to 2020-21, she helped lead the Titans to three consecutive WIAC Tournament Championships, a Regular Season Title, and two NCAA Sweet 16 appearances. Over her three seasons, UW-Oshkosh achieved a 55-16 record and secured NCAA Tournament berths each year.
A native of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Voss graduated from Eau Claire North High School in 2018, where she was a multi-sport standout. She earned her undergraduate degree in Rehabilitation Science from UW-Oshkosh in 2021 and her master's degree in Clinical Exercise Physiology from St. Cloud State in 2024.
