THIS WEEK'S MATCHES: UW-Stout (8-5, 0-1 WIAC) will travel to UW-Platteville (8-6, 0-1 WIAC), Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. and to Macalester College (9-3, 1-0 MIAC), Saturday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. The Pioneers won the last meeting between the two teams, but Stout won the previous five.
2021 UW-STOUT BLUE DEVILS: Sidney Hoverman is third in the WIAC in kills, averaging 3.49 kills over 37 sets played. Over the first 10 matches, Hoverman has had double-digits kills in eight and set a collegiate-best with 21 kills against Grinnell College. Lexie Nelson is second in the league in hitting percentage (.335) and is fourth in the league in assists (7.42). Terrah Moshier is 10th in the conference in digs (3.26). | Statistics
BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT: The Blue Devils lost 3-1 to UW-La Crosse, Sept. 15, and 3-0 at Bethel University, Sept. 18. Stout downed UW-Superior, 3-1, Sept. 18 in St. Paul, Minn Sidney Hoverman and Anna Hansen combined for 30 kills as UW-Stout put an end to a three game skid with a 3-1 win over UW-Superior in the Blue Devils' second match of the day at Bethel University Invitational Saturday. Hoverman came close to her career-best by putting down 19 kills against the Yellowjackets (2-7). Her current best is 21 kills. Hansen did match a career-best with 11 kills against the Yellowjackets. Lexie Nelson recorded a career-best 48 assists against the Yellowjackets. Nelson had three service aces. | Game Story and Statistics
UW-PLATTEVILLE: Olivia Kudronowicz leads the Pioneers in kills, averaging 2.82 per set and she is trailed by Emma Carlson with 2.76 kills. Kaite Asche and Nicki Kammerzelt are among the league leaders in service aces with Asche average 0.38 and Kammerzelt 9.36, Asche is also among the leaders in blocks, averaging 0.93 per set, but tops in number of solo blocks with 17. | 2021 Statistics
LAST TIME OUT: Platteville came into last weekend's Viking Classic hosted by Augustana College two games below .500. But after two 5-set victories on Friday night followed by two straight set victories on Saturday, the the Pioneers left Illinois with an 8-6 overall mark. Showing no ill-effects from marathon matches against Augustana and Lake Forest less than 24 hours before, the Pioneers ran roughshod over Nebraska Wesleyan and Knox College on Saturday, 3-0.
LAST TIME THEY MET: Today marked Constitution Day in the United States. UW-Platteville proved to have a slightly stronger constitution tonight as the Pioneers edged UW-Stout, 3-2, in the opening match of the WIAC season Sept. 17, 2019, at Johnson Fieldhouse. The Pioneers (9-2, 1-0 WIAC) won their seventh consecutive match with a 25-15, 15-25, 25-15, 21-25, 15-10 win Platteville held a strict advantage defensively at the net, recording two solo blocks – including the game decider by Kaite Asche for match point – and 18 assisted blocks. Katie Jones finished with six assisted blocks and Lita Solberg with five. In a match that saw 21 tied scores and 13 lead changes, UW-Platteville prevailed with four players hitting in double digits, led by Olivia Kudronowicz with 14. Hailey Youngren finished up with 11 and Jones and Solberg each had 10. Stout was led on the attack by freshman Lydia Kneubuehl with 14 kills. McKylie Hoff and Kara Simonson each had 11 kills. Both teams had 54 kills for the match and each had about the same number of total attacks – 136 for Platteville, 143 for Stout – but the Blue Devils had nearly twice as many hitting errors, recording 26 to 14 for Platteville. MACALESTER COLLEGE: The Scots are led in kills by Eliza King with 3.55 per set and Adisa Preston is averaging 2.55. Coming into this week, the Scots had won four straight. | Statistics
LAST TIME OUT: The Scots are scheduled to play at Gustavus Adolphus, Tuesday, Sept. 21, then will be at UW-La Crosse, Friday, Sept. 24, before coming home to host Stout, Saturday, Sept. 25.
LAST TIME THEY MET: After a sub-par performance earlier in the week, the UW-Stout volleyball team bounced back to pick up a pair of wins at the College of St. Catherine's Invitational Oct. 15, 2016. UW-STOUT COACH MANDY TRAUTMANN: Coach Mandy Trautmann (43-29) is in her fourth season as the head coach of the Blue Devils in 2021. In her first season as head coach in 2018, Trautmann led the Blue Devils to a home WIAC playoff berth, the first for the Blue Devils since 2004. Trautmann took over the Blue Devils after a season as an assistant coach. Prior to coming to Stout, Trautmann was the team captain for UW-Oshkosh in 2015, a season the Titans captured the WIAC regular season championship. Trautmann was a two-time first team all-WIAC selection in 2014 and 2015, and an honorable mention choice in 2013. She was named to the all-WIAC defensive team in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
