Blue Devils work for pair of wins at St. Kate's Invite

UW-Stout 3, Macalester 0 | UW-Stout 3, St. Catherine 2

ST. PAUL, Minn. (October 15, 2016) - After a sub-par performance earlier in the week, the UW-Stout volleyball team bounced back to pick up a pair of wins at the College of St. Catherine's Invitational Saturday. But the Blue Devils had to work hard for the wins.

Stout (12-10) started off the day with a 3-0 decision, 25-23, 25-18, 25-22, win over Macalester College (8-13) to open the tournament, then needed to come all the way from behind to take a 3-2 win, 18-25, 18-25, 25-16, 25-21, 15-12 win over the host Wildcats (11-14).

In the opener, senior Olivia Jung led the way with the attack, racking up 12 kills and a solid attack percentage of .345.

The match against St. Kate's proved to be tougher. With their backs up against the wall after dropping the first two games by identical 25-18 scores, and trailing in the third set as much as 10-3, Stout rallied back.

Ashley Pratt, who finished with a career-high 20 kills, recorded six kills in the third set, then one-upped herself with seven itn he fourth set. Pratt and Kennedy Strain each had three kills in the deciding fifth set. Pratt finished the set with an attack percentage of .348 and Strain finished with seven kills in the match and a .333 hitting percentage. Jung and Carli Langeland each had eight kills.

The Wildcats got 11 kills each from Libby Kreuser, Abby Palmer, Hannah Flatness and Payton Baker.

The Blue Devils return home Wednesday, Oct. 19 to host UW-Eau Claire at 7 p.m. in a Dig Pink night to raise awareness for breast cancer.
